Osu!
karate actually helped my surfing...so yes, I do both..

I had never surfed when I met Mr S, but he was a disreputable surfer boy, and I quickly learned that it was far more fun to join in than to sit on the beach. In those days, very very few women surfed, all the girls would do was lie on the beach in their bikinis looking gorgeous.

Mr S, progressive soul that he is, taught me. But he couldn't believe it when I was standing by the end of my first lesson....My stance on the board really cracked him up though - I was surfing in Kokutsu dachi.

I have had to change stances twice, once with each knee reconstruction. I used to be goofy footed, and the leg that I tied the rope to needed an ACL reconstruction. So I changed feet. then busted the other knee, so I had to change back again.

I still use the concepts of karate stances when I surf, mainly to have conscious control of weight distribution.

My advice Meguro - given (with respect) your age, and the fact that you don't live near a "big wave" destination, is get a big Malibu board....and invest in a few lessons to get the knack of catching the waves. and I don't believe you when you say you have poor balance. I have seen you move!
