After working the doors here in Brisbane, Australia for a number of years, you get a fairly good appreciation for improvised weapons. I've been hit with bottles, glasses, pool cues, stools, billiards balls (thrown from accross the room!), bollards, shoes (watch out for high heels!), handbags, ash trays, and even a poster off the wall. The last one was a little confusing as it just kind of annoyed me. Nonetheless, these were mostly fairly effective weapons. Thankfully for me they didn't really know what to do after the first shot didn't drop me.
Now, having retired my security number for good, I've become a trainee instructor in Floro Fighting System. FFS is a system developed by world renowned knife fighter, Raymond Floro, based on the Filipino Martial Art of Kalis Illustrimo. Ray has an inovative style with both knives and stick but specialises in the use of improvised weapons. It's amazing what you can use to defend yourself.
