Sorry, I should have qualified that further. Ray developed his system and reputation through success in sporting knife contests, becoming a champion fencer and defending himself against numerous knife attacks while living and visiting the Phillipines. It didn't help that one of his masters lived in one of the worst slums on the islands.
Ray has developed his system based on the concepts of fencing and boxing incoporated into a symplified kalis illustrimo syllabus with a heavy emphasis on improvised weapons using anything from a water bottle to your credit card. His system is easy to learn and easy to apply under the high-stress environment of a knife attack. As such, Ray is now recognised as a subject matter experts and consultant for the Australian Defence Force and has developed edged weapons programs for a number of Australian and international police services. His highest profile job that I'm aware of has been training the Korean Special Forces in his brand of edged weapon survival.
Sorry to go into the sales pitch - Ray is a good friend of mine and I love talking about his system. It's pretty hard to beat for quick to learn, effective weapon work.
