altho Kata has a bad rep for being a "karate dance" rather than anything else nowadays, it is a VITAL part of training...
for example, i dont think Tensho or Sanchin are dancing routines, they are vital in strengthening your body.. (i know its far too advanced for a 6th kyu, but i learned them watching my sempai, and i do Tensho once everyday)
some kata, like the early taikyoku kata, are geared towards making one learn how to keep balance..
strength and speed are all too important, but if you dont have steady feet, where will you get power from? how will you be able to move fast?
i think the greatest thing in kyokushin is that the emphasis is still on the low kicks, and i especially liked the part above about the low kicks..
first kick i learned was the kin geri.
i know that jodan geri are beautiful and lethal knock-out kicks, but on the streets, they work like 1/100 of the time!
cold: Osu.
about finding if a dojo is real rather than a mcDojo, dont enlist the first day, ask the sensei to let you watch for a couple of days.. oh, especially watch the sparring parts! (i doubt that any dojo, real or not, would change its training regimen for a casual observer)
a good dojo should balance between warming up, kihon (technique training), kata, and kumite (in kyokushin it should be WITHOUT padding), and a warming DOWN period after..
i think in egypt kyokushin is strong, and well-spread, so it shouldnt b hard to find a good one!
(unlike here, when a member -kakatotooshi, Osu!- thankfully supplied me with contact details for a IKO dojo, it turned out to be in another CITY!.. ah crap.. i'll keep on looking..)
also, if you want, try MuayThai, a guess its also strong in egypt!
thank you for your time!
Osu.
