Tuesday, Gym Training

Was really annoyed at work this afternoon so left earlier than usual and got to the gym a bit early. So an extra 12 Minutes for me on the Treadmill.

Ros got there and we did 10 mins on the Cross trainer.

Someone(Ros) had the idea to up the rounds to 1.5 minutes today so we did 1.5 mins of........

Left leg forward, Jab/Reverse/Uppercut into the bag.
Right leg forward, Jab/Reverse/Uppercut into the bag.
alternating between us 3 X Mawashi geri into the bag me right leg & Ros left leg.
swap sides and same again.
Sit-ups.
Burpee, Right maweashi geri, Left mawashi geri.
Russian Twists.
Ushiro geri(probably not 1.5 minutes though).
Mawashi geri/Ushiro mawashi kake geri over squatting partners head.

Yellow belt kata to the count
Yellow belt kata against an opponent X 2

Brench presses 5,4,3,3,3 reps (Ros says not to put the weights we used;)).

Saturday, Enshin Training

10 Minute warm-up on the cross-trainer

Defence against grabs, Started with partner grabbing the sleeve of the Gi and you do an uppercut/shovel hook and a Hiza geri, then it was the same but with a takedown on the end.

Next your partner grabbed and hooked the neck and you escaped from that by bringing your head under the hooking arm, then upper cut and either Hiza geri of chudan mawashi geri and finished with a takedown.

looked at defence against being grabbed and dragged round in a circle, move quicker than you opponent to get in range to strike.

mixture of all the above, dealing with what ever your opponent does to you.

Then we moved over to the weights and Gary showed us some more stuff we can do to improve strength. One of which was chin ups. Haven't done chin ups for years, always used to be able to do them, shouldn't be an issue, How wrong I was:(

Isometrics (eg. bent arm hangs) and eccentrics are very helpful in building the strength for the chins & pull-ups. Jumping pull-ups, where you use a jump to help get your chin over the bar then hold for a bit at the mid-pont and lower yourself slowly for the negative is one way to combine the isometric with the eccentric.

Ros had the main write up tonight, I say "Had" because it's just manged to navigate away from the page and lost all the words she'd written :(

There were bad words being said, and I mean really bad words!

Now she's decided to go to bed(in a huff;)) so I guess I'll expand on her two lines.

From fighting stance....

Front punch X 20
Reverse punch X 20
Front/Reverse X 20
Front/Reverse/Shovel hook X 20

Hiza geri X 20
Hiza geri/Mae geri X 20
Hiza ger/Mae geri/Mawashi geri X 20

Got into partners and did mawashi geri/Ushiro mawashi kake geri over your (Crouching) partners head then same again but four kicks instead of two.

Various pad stuff including......

Mae geri, Move off line, grab and Mawashi geri
Mae geri, Move off line, Grab and hook, Hiza geri
Mae geri, gedan mawashi geri, grab and Mawashi geri

Then we did some grab defences like we did saturday.....

Partner grabs, you counter grab, Shovel Hook, Hiza geri
Partner grabs and hooks neck, you duck under and Shover hook, Hiza geri and takedown

what is a shovel hook

A cross between a hook and an uppercut, so it travels at 45 degrees across the body and upwards targetting the liver/floating ribs or solar plexus.

Why shovel? Imagine the track your back hand makes if you fill a shovel then chuck it over your shoulder.

Wednesday, Day off work so.......... Gym Training

Warm up with 10 mins on the cross-trainer

Then a few 1 minute rounds(30 secs rest) of....

Close bag work incl. Front punch, Reverse punch, Hook, Uppercut, Shovel Hook, Elbow, Knee

Long range work incl. Mae geri, Mawashi geri(varying height), Ushiro geri

Sit-ups

Put our gis on and then did.....

Yellow belt kata against an opponent
Blue belt kata against an opponent
White belt kata against an opponent

Then it was three minute rounds taking it inturn at being attacker then defender....

Mae geri defence and takedown off the back leg
Mae geri defence and takedown off the front leg

Mawashi geri defence wasn't working so we dropped this from the plan and moved on to working on grab defence, counter, takedowns. Did some work on Hiki Mawashi defence and counters.

The weights were in use so we skipped the strength stuff today and finished off with a good old Tabata of Sprints mixed in with Press-ups, Sit-ups, Squats & Burpees.

Then we went to the pub for breakfast:) And Ros and her Mum have now gone shopping.

Well with Ros working it was bound to be a killer session, It was;)

Warmed up with 2 Minutes of mawashi geri into the heavy bag, Rik one side kicking right leg me the other kicking left. First minute was Gedan then second minute was Chudan. Swapped sides and did another 2 minutes. Trying to work on positioning the supporting foot at 45 degrees first then firing the kick. There were some nice noises coming from the bag:)

Next I had a kick shield and had to hold it out the way as I delivered a Mae geri(we'll get to them later) Rik blocked the kick and then I put the shield against my forward leg for Rik to counter with a Gedan mawashi.

Similar thing next but this time the shield went infront of the body and a chudan mawashi geri was the counter, The aim of the game was to make the person behind the pad wince:)

I was having a problem with my Mae geri, not bringing the knee high enough before firing the lower leg. So Gary had one of us holding the kick shield and running toward the other, who then had to use a Mae geri to stop the runner in their tracks.

Did the same but this time using a Ushiro geri to stop them.

Next was blocking a mae geri and countering with a Chudan or Jodan Mawashi geri(depending on where the opponents arms went)

Moved on to do Kata, White belt, Blue belt and Yellow belt against an opponent.

then it was a little drill where you assume the fighting position and move round and slap your opponents front guard out of the way as you move offline to prepare for a mawashi geri. The first and second time you do this your opponent moves round to follow you but the third time they stay put and you deliver the mawashi geri

Finished with an amount of time doing Burpee, Left mawashi geri, right mawashi geri. I think it was more than a minute, I'm guessing it was 2?

GJEC

That was me trying to encourage you, not the bag talking :)
OK I jest, good impact from you both.

The aim of the game was to make the person behind the pad wince

Love that game! My aim is to always make the person holding the pads nervous. We also gave feedback on a scale of 1 to 10 about how hard the kicks were going in. Pleased I got a 10 even with a poorly poorly foot (is that that blasted violin I can hear again?)

Notes -

Rik: If you give me a 9 I'm just going to keep going for ever until I get a 10.

Monty: Your mae geri drills were good. Once you raised the knee a bit higher you were stopping Rik in his tracks. Well done!

Gary

Yesterday when we were running at each other was fun but it was also hard, your brain knows that at the end of the run you are going to get kicked in the chest (albeit through a kick shield). As you near the opponent you brain applies the brakes because it doesn't want to get hurt. The hard bit was overridding that and keeping going so as to make the drill useful for your opponent.

I think that Gary's use of the word Enjoyable sums it up better than the word Fun.

All this said there are also points that are very, very un-enjoyable:eek:

My write up tonight coz Ros is being a bit of a miserable(although I've just been told, at knife point, to say that this is a very very rare occurence) ;)

Sensei Paul was in charge tonight, Nice to have him out the front for a change:)

Started off with a full Enshin warm up.

Moved on to 20 reps of all the Kihon Strikes, Blocks and Kicks. Doing Ushiro Mawashi Kake geri in line without doing a Mawashi geri first was a bit wierd.

Partnered up and got a set of pads between each pair and worked on various strike combinations into the pads going for Impact again.

Added in some Kicks on the pads as well, working on positioning the supporting foot at 45 degrees before starting the kick.

Then did White, Blue and Yellow belt kata to the count, against an opponent and as the attacker

Finished off doing some squat jumps at the end but with a difference, holding on with both hands to the wall bars and as you jump up you pull on your hands and try and get as high as you can (bit of a bad description but hey ho).

As an attempt to work off all the Beer/Chocolate/Cookies/Flapjacks/Fry-ups we decided to do a session on the pads this afternoon.

Started up with a quick warm up then it was 1 Minute rounds of....

Left fighting stance, Front/Reverse punch
Right fighting stance, Front/Reveres punch
Left leg Mawashi geri
Right leg Mawashi geri
Right Ushiro geri(holding onto the column for support)
Left Ushiro geri
Mawashi geri/Ushiro Mawashi Kake geri over squatting partners head)

The area around the Villa was very quiet so the Grunts and the Slap on the pads seemed particularly noisy :)

Got the playing cards out and using the 5 - 10 of each suit took it in turns to draw 5 cards and do the number of techniques on each card. Punch/Elbow/Mawashi geri/Hiza geri. The jokers were 5 of all the techniques, Managed to draw one joker each, I think there may have been some fixing going on:D

Yellow belt Kata, Each move against an opponent 5 times then all the way through.

Finished off with a pool Tabata alternating Front crawl legs & High Knees:)

Sensei Paul was in charge again today

Started with a quick warm up running round in a circle, high knees, kicking your bum etc etc

Then it was into lines and did 20 reps of all the Kihon Strikes and Blocks

Kicks were done a bit differently tonight, from fighting stance moving across the dojo alternating right then left for a count of 5....

Hiza geri
Kinteki geri
Mae geri
Mawashi geri
Turn then side kick

Then we strung the five kicks together to the five count

next thing was fun, got out a PE type bench a small vault type thing and a medium vault type thing. We started standing on the bench then jump down from that and straight into a jump onto the small vault thing then jump off that and straight into a jump onto the medium vault thing. Pleasantly surprised that I managed to do it:) Then we did the same but starting from the highest and going to the smallest.

then we did some movement drills across the dojo.

Partnered up and using your partner as a target did Ushiro geri, firstly stationary then turning.

Pads came out and we partnered up and did....

Mae geri, Ushiro geri
Partner does gyakazuki, you do Hiki mawashi, Hiza geri, Mawashi geri
Partner does Mae geri, you do gedan barai, low kick, Mawashi geri, Hiza geri

Interesting thing next, each person had one arm pad took it to Sensei who held it for you to kick out of his hands using different techniques. My Ushiro geri was particularly poor :(

Finished off with some one armed press-ups, One legged squats and squat jumps (Using the wall bars to pull on to help get height).

Ros has done the main write up, I have to say that by the time we'd got to the Mae geris my legs felt like lead and It was all I could do to do one kick per every 2nd or 3rd count

Enjoyed the sparring tonight, tried some of the defence/counters we've done as drills. Some worked some didn't :) Absolutely knackered by the end, went for a wobbly walk round Tesco.

Always the problem with gyms. It used to bug me to death when I wanted to push on, only to find some idiot sitting on the kit I wanted - texting.

The usual etiquette of "Can I work in with you?" doesn't work when they're lazy and you're dripping in sweat, they just look sheepish and say, "I've got three more sets mate".

Saturday, Park Run

No Dojo training today so we joined Gary and son for a 7am run in Bradgate Park.

20 Minutes of varying Intervals of Walking(downhill), Jogging(downhill), 3/4 speed run(uphill), Sprinting(uphill) & Rest.

It was a lovely morning and a really enjoyable change(apart from the sprinting up hill bits!)

Later on we are going to a chinese restaurant for an all you can eat buffet meal with some people from our old style of karate where I have two main goals...

a) To eat my own body weight in Satay Chicken ;)
b) Keep Ros from going on about how much better Enshin is:p

Guess which is going to be easiest (I've already warned the chinese they need 12 stones of chicken for tonight) :)

The worst thing is that they all agree that our old style fits somewhere on the scale of 'a bit rubbish' to 'appalling McDojo' and yet they are very reluctant to try anything else (even if we've done the scary stuff of trying it first! :D). One of them insists he will just stay until he gets his black belt - my view is what's the value of a black belt from an organisation you have no respect for? Other reasons have been:

I can train with the kids - (Great, you can all have s**t training together)

But we can train on every night of the week if we want to - (Great, you can have frequent s**t training)

We get free training because we're 'senseis' - (I really shouldn't type my feelings about this one!)

But we wouldn't be able to keep our grade - (and?)

etc. etc. Hee hee, I'm on a right soap-box aren't I - I sound like an ex-smoker or something! :D I'm sure I won't be able to help myself with some 'gentle suggestions' tonight. I only have a finite amount of self-control y'know and that buffet will probably need all of it. :D

"Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened".

(Sir Winston Churchill)

If someones staying in an easy style because they're comfortable they've missed the whole point. You get stronger through challenging yourself.

That's not to say you can't enjoy hard training or have a good belly laugh on occasions, but it should test your courage and determination at least some of the time.

Have a great meal - you deserve it!

Monday, Enshin Training

Full enshin warm up to start with.

Kihon strikes and blocks X 20

Not many kicks tonight(thankfully because my quads are still sore from Saturdays run). Mae keage, Kakato otoshi geri X 20 with partner holding up as hand/hands as a target.

Then your partern holds both arms out infront of themselves and you do Mawashi geri over them place the foot down and then same leg comes back over the arms doing a Ushiro mawashi kake geri.

We did the same again but added a second mawashi geri at the end

Kata time: White, Blue and Yellow belt.

Next the pads came out and we did 3 minutes of hit what you see 3 of each technique. Same again but this time only 2 of the techniques. Thought my Mae geris were much better than they usually are tonight :)

Padded up and did 3 rounds of sparring.

Proper sweaty by then, got a bit of a breather while Gary talked to us about using Sabaki in our sparring then finished off with 30 Press-ups, 30 Sit-ups, 30 Squat kicks & 25 Burpees:eek:

Ros has done the main write up, what a session:eek:

Doing Kata straight into Padwork straight back into Kata straight into more padwork straight into more Kata straight into padwork was nasty!

Then the cards, oh the cards:eek: I don't think it helped that my partner for the first set of padwork was an ex boxer, his punches were bad even behind the pads! My chest was aching from that and the situps were making it worse!!

Thankfully Sensei Matt forgot to do the "Carrying the heavy thing up and down the dojo" :)

I really wanted to stop before the end of the second go through the cards but pushed on, may not have done every single rep but hey ho.

Good to be back in the Dojo, I'd hate to think how we'd have faired if we hadn't been doing stuff over the two week break.

Started off with a quick warm up then it was 20 reps of all Kihon Strikes, Blocks and Kicks. Plus Sanbon Tzuki and punch/block combo's. Thought I'd got the Block/Punches for about the first 5 reps then it all went to pot. Ofcourse it's then really tricky to get back in with the count!

We then did Yellow, Blue and White belt kata to the count and then without count.

Finished off with sparring type drills where first 30 seconds was lower grade attacking and higher grade defending/countering, then higher grade attacking etc then last 30 seconds was alternating being the attacker.

Anyhoo, I'm normally very anal and every Monday Morning, Tuesday Morning and Friday Morning I update my Karate Log Spreadsheet that shows me various things like number of classes, grade, dates of grading etc. I haven't done that since last Tuesday and I've just realised I'd missed a milestone.

Saturday's class was My 100th Enshin Class:) :)

I was never able to bring my full game against my friends, id always not kick as brilliantly, maybe you wouldnt want to accidetally hurt the darling beloved :)

actually, i also find when kicking head height, its different on a person, cause the shoulders are kind of an almost unconcious obsticle, maybe someone else has found this also?

Its great to see that you are getting your kicks up there though, as someone who struggled for a time i really understand the feeling you must have about achieving this goal, well done! :)

I've noticed in sparring the mechanics of kicks are often done a bit different then in kihon and on the bag. Sometimes it's so subtle that you don't notice at first but after re-examining it and breaking it down you do.

I'm not Gary so I can't even fathom what you're doing or not doing Monty, without seeing :)

However, I imagine in kihon you're chambering a bit more then you do in sparring and on the bag but I've been wrong before...

Besides all that I like how detailed your log is :) I'll be starting one here, soon!

Regarding the kicks working better on the bag than in the air - I'm the same way! My "air" jodan mawashi geri are finally getting a little better - I think its because I'm learning to relax a little bit. But they've always been much better on the bag. I think its because when I lay into the bag, the bag helps stabilize me and keep from losing balance. In the air I have to rely on my own muscles to apply the brakes and keep balance - that's a lot harder to do, especially if you are trying to kick with power, pivoting on the support foot, etc...

Incidentally, I just tried practicing my jodan mawashi geri, and mawashi ushiro kake geri on my double end bag for the first time last night, and that seemed to work even better

Ditto! I was just saying that very thing to my wife a few days ago. At a clinic we held, I was asked to teach a session on advanced kicks: 4 shodans, a sandan and a friend of the sandan; all but the sandan hosed the kick. The way they threw the kick, a groin is the only thing they would've hit. I digress...

Anyhow: Monty, congrats on 100 classes, that's awesome. Well on your way my friend :)

Ros picked me up from work with the intention of us then going to the gym, we decided in the car that rather than go to the Gym we'd go home, get the jigsaw mats out in the back garden(did we tell you that.........) and do some training in the sunshine:)

Warmed up with White, Blue and Yellow belt kata. Then did Yellow belt against an opponent.

2 Mins of

Ushiro geri, holding onto a chair for stability
Yoko geri(Ros only)
Moving round hitting whatever the padperson gives you

1 Minute of situps

1 Minute of Mawashi geri/Ushiro Mawashi Kake geri over Partner

1 Minute each of Burpee/Right Mawashi geri/Left Mawashi geri

30 Seconds Plank

Thursday, Enshin Training

Full Enshin warm up to start off with.

20 or 30 reps of all Kihon strikes and blocks

20 Reps of Mae Keage, Hiza Geri & Mae geri

Then 4 stations of Gedan mawashi geri, Chudan Mawashi geri, Jodan Mawashi geri & Jodan Mawashi geri holding onto the wall bars. 20 kicks at each station and rotated through each station twice.

We went straight from this into Drop outs/Push ups starting at 10 reps of each and ending at 1 rep of each.

Then the cards came out and it was do the kata if you know it and sit down if ya don't. Damn you cards! Yellow belt kata was the first and second out !!

How lovely it was to hear the words "Black belt kata next":)

Pad work next, the pad man held the pads in front of themselves then you kicked or pushed him/her back, grabbed the front arm, kicked Mawashi geri then took them over.

The Pad man then did a Mae geri, you blocked, grabbed, Mawashi geri and take down.

The pad man grabbed, you counter grabbed, Shovel hook/Uppercut/shita tsuki, Hiki mawashi, Hiza geri and take down.

The class shot by today and we were just about to move on to a Elbow strike drill and Gary noticed we'd run out of time:(

Most people packed up and went at that point whilst some stayed on for some sparring. 3 Bouts and I was knackered. The phrase I'm going to take away from it is "Monty! Keep Your Hands UP!!" :)

The first kick has to knock the padman back. at that point he will naturally fall into a stance. We grab the outside of the front shoulder, so if he's left leg forward we grab with the right, swing the left leg back and kick. (Reverse that if he steps back with the right leg in front.

Hope Ros is OK. She looked in a bit of discomfort by the end of the session.

Thursday, Enshin Training

Started off with 5 sets of 10 Jumping jacks and 10 Mountain climbers

Then the normal quick warm up

The Kihon strikes and blocks were a bit different tonight, straight through them at full speed 10 reps of each with no gap an no announcment of what technique we were doing next.

Then the Kihon kicks, I think the kansetsu geri was at a better angle tonight.

Mawashi geri/Ushiro mawashi kake geri alternating over squatting partners head. 1 Minute rounds X 4

Yellow, Blue & white belt kata to the count
Yellow, Blue & white belt kata no count

Then the Cards and the Pads came out and it was varying numbers of Punches, Mawashi geri, Mae geri or Hiza geri depending on the card drawn. Don't know how long it went on for but it was really good fun and I felt my Mawashi geri especially were powerful tonight:)

I then had to hold the pads for two of the Black belts to do the same.

Padded up and did several rounds of light kumite, last two rounds were the juniors punching the seniors and all we were allowed to do in return was move.

Finished off with partner ladders of press ups and then 5, 4, 3 ,2 ,1 Burpees:)

Somewhere in there was a relay running thing where the people who were waiting ot run had to be sat down, it was nasty getting up, sprinting, sitting down, getting up, sprinting, sitting down etc etc

Saturday, day 1 of Crossing the Pond Expo

Started today with some swimming and some Jacuzzi-ing:)

Got to the seminar and the very first person to come and talk to us was Marc "Animal" MacYoung:)

The first instructor was Kris Wilder, he showed us about using "Closing your centre" to generate power. Aligning the hips (pulling the tail bone down and tilting the pelvis up slightly) then bending (struggling to explain really) body over a bit?? He also talked about "cheating in fights" using a persons natural response to give you extra time to strike. Ros and I were doing a drill and he commented on how quick Ros's reactions were. He took my place and had ago himself against Ros and said "You are quick, I'll actually have to put some effort in to beat you" :) Then dragged her up to demonstrate.

Then Nicholas Yang showed us some moving drills in a Kung-fu way. Moving forward, swopping stance, moving at angles. Then some Kicks and defences there of. It was interesting but I have to say(with no disrepect to Nicholas) that it was my least fav part.

After lunch we started back with Al Peasland, Tomorrow he'll talk about pre-emptive striking but for today it was what to do if your first strike fails. Did some blocks, locks and chokes.

Marc then did some street defence stuff, Moving off line using gravity to help(imagine lifting your right leg up without first putting your weight onto the left), getting to the "happy spot" and then using your momentum for power. This was Ros's favourite session.

Finished the day working with Iain Abernethy on bunkai from the Kushanku/Kanku dai kata.

Quite an exhausting day, off for some food now:)

Which of course, I was secretly very chuffed about, hee hee. :) I also learnt that if you're going to punch a ream of paper, don't do it with the wrong knuckles - I now have a monster bruise! :o

We were very naughty and hid at the back so we didn't have to swap partners. I felt self-conscious enough - swapping partners would have pushed me over the edge!

Overall, a great day. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Kancho's a pragmatist, and still changes the odd move here and there if it works better. I think he just wanted to put over the sabaki principles in gradually more complex kata.

Once grasped, those principles are open to different uses.

That's a valid question.

For me, after 10 years of regular practise I still see them simply as a link between basics and fighting. Whether I'm training or teaching I just drill each combination - all practical moves - until they start to flow. So improvement has come through making the moves smoother and more economical, rather than finding different applications.

I've just realised what you forgot to mention! :)

There is one particular move in green belt kata that I know is going to give me (particular) trouble: mawashi geri, ushiro mawashi geri, then as you touch the floor with that foot, a little hop forward and mawashi geri. So we also went over that move several times (slowly). It can only get better! :D

Its all in the footwork Ros.

If you have the DVD watch Kancho's or Koichi's feet.

Lots of little info there.

Thursday, Enshin Training

Easy one tonight! This is ofcourse using the Chamberlain definition of Easy:eek:

Quick warm up

30 reps of Chudan tsuki, Jodan ago uchi, seiken mawashi uchi, shita tsuki, Jodan uke, chudan soto nagashi & Gedan barai

30 (and for one technique 50) reps of Mae Keage, Hiza geri, Kinteki geri Mae geri and Mawashi geri

Proper sweaty by then:)

Partnered up and did (1 minute rounds of) Mawashi geri/ushiro mawashi kake geri over squatting partners head, swapped partners and did grab arm move to sabaki position 1 or 2 and Mawashi geri, swapped partners again and did Hiki mawashi and Hiza geri, swapped partners again and did either of the above two techniques.

we split into two groups one at one end of the dojo, the others at the other end.

Both sets sitting on the floor with legs out infront. First side jumps up and sprints down to the other lot, touch your opposite number and then run(backwards) back to where you started. Oppsite number gets up and chases you back and so on.

Same again but this time you are lying face down.

The pads came out and we did the first half of green belt kata doing each move lots of times against an opponent, I really enjoy this and am looking forward to doing the second half.

Finished off with Ladder press-ups 5 down to 1, then same with situps, then same with burpees.

Most people went home then but six of us stayed behind to do a bit of sparring. 5 rounds of a minute each.

We then went for a wobbly shop round Tesco :)

Ros has done the main write up. she's right, thursday's sweaty wasn't as bad as today's:eek:

I was quite looking forward to the bag work last night when we got a text from Gary saying "Bring your bag gloves", that was until we actually started doing it:)

And forgot to mention, Gary noticed that when I do jab, reverse, upper cut my back leg lift off the floor when I do the uppercut. I had no idea this was happening and must correct it post haste:)

Monty mate, that is quite a common problem, one I had to put
right too. I tried to move in a little closer and work on making left
and right equally strong.

Matt, thanks. I'm going to start correcting it in the Gym tomorrow after work assuming my legs are ok(* see below)

Monday, Enshin Training

Started up with a quick warm up and then 20 reps of all Kihon strikes, blocks and Kicks. Apart from Mawashi geri which was 80 reps:eek: Quite liked my Shita tsuki at slow pace but at full speed they went a bit 'Pete Tong'.

Partnered up and did 3 X 1 Minutes of Mawashi geri/Ushiro Mawashi Kake geri over partners head(squatting down)

Did the second half of green belt kata against an opponent, several goes each at each move.

Fully padded up and did some three man sparring drills, Highest grade defends against alternating attacks from other two, then middle grade is 'on' then the lower grade.

lined up against an an opponent and then did 3 rounds of Lower grade attacks for first part, higher grade attacks for second part and alternate attacks for last part.

Finished off doing various numbers of various excercises against a partner depending upon which card is drawn. Gary then told us if we'd had enough we could sit down or stay up and carry on, My mind had a quick chat with itself and I decided to stay up and carry on:) Second go round I was missing reps and not keeping up with the count so when Gary said again sit down if you've had enough or stay up for more my "Sit down" voice won. Turns out he was only joking about the third go anyway:D

I was very impressed with Ros, She only got 3 hours sleep last night and has been exhausted all day, it was touch and go as to whether she'd go training or not tonight but she did and managed to keep up with everything.

Yesterday afternoon I was only awake because of caffeine and willpower! I felt a bit better when I got in so thought I would come training. Which seemed to be fine until I suddenly hit a wall! Not the out-of-breath-can't-speak type knackeredness, but the bungee-cords-tied-to-limbs-slurring-words kind! :)

Anyway I hope a proper night's sleep has sorted me out, thanks (although I'm always weak first thing, so will have to wait til mid-morning to do a proper assessment! :D).
