I'm surprised by it a bit but I also have to remind myself how Fedor doesn't stay that active fighting compared to other fighters. Also taking into consideration most of us mortals only have so long of a time frame to compete. I think it's smart of Fedor to consider retiring at his age and with his record but maybe he should try at least one more time before considering that?

It would be nice to go out on a win, but I don't think he wants a chump fight...'

To watch Silva take a full mount and pound Fedor was shocking to watch. I guess though every fighter's got the retirement calling sooner or later. Unfortunately for most we haven't been able to watch Fedor much since Pride and him coming back after that long hiatus to this is sad for Fedor fans.

eh? I thought Fedor was off to Thailand??? :D

Seriously, could someone be kind enough to post a link to the video of the fight? :)
Thanks a million.

I guess Alistair is a ringer for the tournament champion now.

What happens if Alastair and Valentijn meet?

Talk about akward. I know they are brothers but I can't help get over the fact that they look the same, physical wise. I personally don't think Fedor should retire but find something else to add to his repertoire...like Kyokushin. :D But seriously, Fedor needs to kick more IMHO.

I had bad feelings abut this from the opening bell. Inside a cage against someone so big and not untalented either, that's asking for a lot, even for Fedor.

I'm confused why Barnett didn't fight in this? I originally thought he was supposed to be part of it? I was hoping this was going to be his "come back" since I really feel he's one of the most well rounded fighters in the world for his weight class that is the most under rated.

I have to say.....I am thoroughly impressed with Silvas takedown execution under Fedors overhand right on Saturday. That shows awesome training in my eyes. I can remember drilling that at a dojo I used to train at....timing was different for each person you trained with, but often you wanted to put your hands up, which caused delay. Silva was on the button!! The guy is awesome!

Thing is, Silva enjoys something like a 7 inch reach advantage. All he would have to do is stick his hand out there. The rest was gravity and a bjj bb.:D

Osu! EDIT: Valentijn's match against Sefo was an alternate match for the tournament, so it'd be unlikely but possible for the 'Reems to meet, and that Barnett is fighting Rodgers and Alistair is fighting Werdum in April. Hopefully my information is accurate. :o

Another thing I find funny is that I heard Silva was a black belt in karate but they never bring that up. LOL!!! I was also surprised he did what he did to Fedor giving that he almost lost his fight to Mike Kyle.

And that is what makes it all the more impressive to me. Silva is a big guy, he ducked that punch fluidly. Yes gravity took over, and I may be projecting from my gimpy physical stature, but for all intents and purposes I see his head knocked off or a slide out from position from Fedor when Silvas hands went to block.

Rewatched the fight and I must say Fedor looked like he was out of his element. To swing for the fences on the first couple attempts is random. He also didn't show his usual speed and grace, even got caught in the corner?! It just didn't look like the Fedor we all know.

I definitely agree, he seemed a bit jet lagged.

I'll have to watch the fight again, but my impression was that size was Silva's main advantage: long reach and gravity. Also, I think it's easier for a taller fighter to spot the overhand punch, and with such a size disparity, in order to reach Silva's chin anything Fedor threw had to be an overhand punch.:D

Agreed. I wonder if it's ring rust. Or perhaps some other driving force -- he looked rushed, almost a little desperate in his fights against Silva and Werdum. Very unlike the controlled Fedor who would dictate the pace (and positioning) of matches back in Pride and Rings. :(
