Why do letters written in all caps sometimes change to lower case?

I did a search and didn't turn anything up, so let me apologize to kakatootoshi now if this turns out to be a repeat thread :eek:

Also, I thought about just sending a pm to K4L or a mod to ask this question, but then I thought perhaps others had the same question so it might be nice to put it out in the public.

Here's my question:

Why is it that sometimes I'll write something in all caps - usually something like LOL or PMSL - but when it posts it shows up in lowercase? When this happens I also see the smileys don't work and the code shows up instead.

And more to the point - is there anything that I can do to fix it when that happens? Using the "edit" function and just going back and re-typing doesn't seem to help...

May be a setting in the forum - on another forum I go to they don't let you use all caps at all...

I have noticed this before too, Sandman. My guess is because the string of letters is so short?

I think it may be, in some cases, because the editor is recognizing emoticons text abbreviations, but cannot link them to an image...
It reformats the text to its standard library.

But I may be wrong.

Spirit quoted me in his post today and every word started with a capital letter, For Example It Looked Like This, Isn't This Annoying? I doubt it was Spirit's doing, and probably is something goofy in the s/w. I thought maybe you all should be aware.

Yes! That is exactly what I'm talking about! Sometimes when I reply to someone's post, suddenly their post will show up like you said - with every word capitalized on the first letter, then my reply is all lower case instead of all caps as intended.

LOL! Yes, this entire forum must be re-validated! If the FDA came to audit and they found that sometimes letters intended to be capitalized came out in lower case, they'd wonder what else we are doing wrong and shut us down! :eek:

(incidentally, that is the Quality Dept's reasoning behind every inane piece of legislation they enact in our company :mad: )

I do not know the reasoning, but it is better than all-caps.
