Looks like it will be a great session.

I have 8 students going into the Eastern Canadians on March 27th in Montreal so have a very full weekend, not that the distance to attend is an issue or anything :(. One of these days we will find a way to train together.

Thanks, Fred! It's open to all groups, and I hope that some will take advantage. I have confirmation of one instructor coming up from Virginia, and two likely instructors from Maryland. Connecticut, New Jersey and New York haven't responded yet, but I've only just sent the info.

Osu!!!

We had a fantastic training today!! I cant even begin to name everyone who attended......but wow there were soooooooo many people at Sensei Shurenkan's dojo!!
We worked on the Bunkai for the Goju Ryu and Kyokushin versions of Gekisai Dai. Sensei Dent gave us variations to work with and we partnered up. Time went by way to fast!!! I am sure there were plenty more items to take from that kata alone. I want to write much more but I am literally falling asleep.

A Very Special Thank You to Shurenkan Sensei and Dent Sensei for all they did to put this together, there were alot of folks to attend to and they did a phenomenal job!! A big Osu also to all the other Goju Ryu and Kyokushin Senseis who assisted with the instruction as well. Everyone was a class act and awesome to meet and train with.

On behalf of Shihan Jean Paul I want to say thank you to everyone today. He was elated at seeing Sensei Joyner, Sato Sensei and Shurnekan Sensei as he had not seen them in a long time. He had also brought along a photo of Sensei D of "Blog Talk Radio, Martial Arts Weekly" fame when he was younger! Shihans words were full of joy and happiness as we walked to our cars. From Shihan to all of you...OSU!!!!

Shurenkan Sensei asked everyone if they could contribute to the relief fund for Japan and passed a bucket around. That was an excellent gesture and many of us gladly contributed. Like wise Sato Sensei brought a box of T-Shirts and asked for donations for the relief efforts in Japan and of course many of us donated....I am humbled by their sense of charity and sincere yearning to make a difference for those in desperate need!! Osu!!

Shurenkan and Dent Sensei got everyones attention to see who was going to go out for a bite after training...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!! There were an aweful lot of hungry folks and Shurenkan Sensei scrambled to find a local restaurant to accomodate at least 40 people.......And boy did he come through!! The food was absolutely awesome. There were so many courses and the food just kept coming!!!!! That was an unbelievable accomplishment, with awesome food, great service and most of all the absolute best company!! OSU!!!

Finally I would like to say, there are some very special people here on kyokushin4life.com who truly do want to help you as a Karateka. They are here in front of you on the screen and they are in the dojo for you to go and visit and exchange knowledge with. They are your friends that need to be realized. Unselfish with their knowledge and wisdom. Truly caring when we all reach out for compassion, sympathy, understanding and simple companionship. Reach out to one another!!! Train and befriend each other and you will find rewards that you would have never assumed were there. And a note to the YUDANSHA: Get together and train!! Most of you spend so much time training mudansha that your personal training becomes a fleeting memory. The more you all meet and exchange ideas, techniques and sweat, the greater the efficacy of the chosen art you teach. And everyone benefits!!

Osu!!!!

Let me second Joe's sentiments, what a good day of practice it was.
Something like 65 people attended, space for training got small. Fortunately we
were just able to get it done.
Besides meeting so many enthusiastic exponents, it was nice to be able to put a face to the "handle" Meguro.
Also good to see Sensei Dent, Sato, Joe and Edgar from bobh's Ct. school.

Looking forward to our next event you'all. Osu!

I can't rep you Joe, but thanks for a stirring write-up. Reflecting on the day's events, Sato Sensei and I thought how wonderful it is to learn so many things in a few hours. You could have spent a lifetime in Kyokushin and still be wowed by the class given by Dent and Shurenkan. On top of that, to have the Jean Paul Shihan, Joyner Sensei and others on hand to lend their experience-you can't put a price on that.

You would expect me to rave about a class on bunkai. But learning bunkai is nothing without people- and not just a room full of automatons marching up and down, people in the moment, grabbing you, sweating on you, resisting, and helping you learn the limits of human body mechanics. Shurenkan's dojo was literally filled by karateka standing shoulder to shoulder. What we lacked in space was made up with enthusiasm and fellowship.

There were a few conspicuous absences: Fred and bobh. Gentlemen, you were missed. Hope you are feeling better bobbh. I would have liked to have seen Godai too. Oh well. I got to meet Knuckleheader and renew friendships with the K4L gang. If you are on the boards and in the area and weren't there, I hope you are there at the next one.

Judging by the success, I am certain there will be more events like this to follow. When Dent, shurenkan and their peers are willing to share, it's almost criminal not to accept. You don't often find this karate everyday.

Osu,

This is what karate is about and perhaps as has often been mentioned here - this is where the revolution can start and create that mindset that we are all one. But it will be hard work, but having capable people like those that organised this event, is an indicator that if one continues and have this rub over into other countries, the end result will become closer.

OSU to all! and Ganbatte Kudasai!

Oops, and sorry to mention this, it would have been great to be there sharing the experience with you all, but as the saying goes "Inshallah" (by God's grace -we will) someday share the occasion.!

One of the more memorable moments of this Saturday to me was watching Knuckleheader and Meguro training the techniques together.....they were constantly smiling and thoroughly enjoying everything happening around them. This really helped settle me down as I was still having anxiety attacks over having my daughters bag of costumes for her play in my car.......and she needed them. Luckily her brothers came all the way to Bayonne to pick them up....Phew!!!

Dent and Shurenkan showing us the Hiki uke in Gekisai dai has me pondering sooooooooooo many different applications. New training schemes in the very near future for me personally.

I hope Dent can help me here with names, but a big Hai, and OSU!!!! To the GOJU RYU folks who attended the seminar! What a fantastic bunch of folks, many of whom traveled quite a distance to attend. There were a few who personally helped me with some techniques, and stayed with me when I was struggling with the Kake exercises. I wish I could remember their names!!! I actually invited them to join us on the forum here as their skills and insight were very helpful this weekend!!

We had Goju people from different organizations, not all of whom I have met before. IOGKF members came from Virginia, NY, NJ, Maryland, Connecticut and DC. Chinese Goju folk came from NY, and an independent Goju group too. We also had Shorin Ryu, Shurenkan, Iwata Karate, and a plethora of different Kyokushin groups represented. All told, I counted 13 organizations. An amazing level of cooperation!

As near as I can figure out, we had folk from the above States as well as PA, Vermont and Wisconsin. Yes, we used every inch of the Shurenkan Dojo, but sweating together is the best way forward.

Thank you All for attending, and I look forward to seeing you all again as soon as possible!

Thanks for your interest, 49ers1970. This seminar took place this past weekend at the Shurenkan Dojo in Bayonne, NJ. (I'm sure you remember Rios-Sensei from your time here with Azuma Jukucho.)

We haven't chosen a date for the next one yet. It will certainly be posted here when the time comes! :)
