Okamido 03-17-2011, 05:18 PM Thanks for that. I think that it is a shame Machida did not take the bout to the ground as he definately faced his opponent allowing Shogun to compete in his strongest zone, ie standup-striking! In their two matches, I felt like I could have been watching a Muaythai vs 'Style' bout in Lumpini stadium, with the expected result of the Muaythai method prevailing. I am a big fan of both fighters though, and hope Machida works his way back to the top very soon! Shogun vs Jones next - this could very tough match title defence! Osu! Osu! sdfighter 03-17-2011, 11:03 PM He did, Machida took Shogun down twice but Shogun escaped both times. Okamido 03-17-2011, 11:43 PM He did, Machida took Shogun down twice.... Hhhmmm exactly! The first contest went 25 mins, then if you add the second bout.. I am pretty sure the majority of the total time, was fought with standing strikes rather than on the ground with GnP and submission attempts. Maybe 90% stand-and-bang! Still its all in the past. I would actually bet a few pennies, and I am not a betting man, that if there was a third contest - without a serious change in tactics by Machida, the most likely result would be Shogun again due to his Muaythai. Shogun on his back... I would be holding onto those coins, and most likely sitting on the edge of my seat throught the contest. Machida - Shogun was one of those rare UFC MMA bouts where the Muaythai stylist was allowed to breakdown his opponent with continual round kicks, without any fear of over-hook catch defence being applied to counter his strikes and sit him onto the canvas. As I posted earlier, it could have been a straight Muaythai rules bout in Lumpini stadium rather than a mixed-martial-arts fight in the octogan. Absolute MMA basics...( Obviously more to the game but here goes ).. Don't Box with a better boxer, kick him ( stay at long range / leg kick / body kick ) Don't Kick with a better kicker, wrestle/grapple him ( crowd him, catch the kick & take him to the ground ) Don't wrestle/grapple a better wrestler/grappler, box him ( head strikes mainly - keeping a strong base with feet on the ground ) Osu! |
