Finally I have managed to start a journal after a lot time of consideration.
My main idea of this journal is to get some more structure to my training at home which have been lacking recently.
One of my goals for this year is to compete in a kumite tournament and this will most likely occur in September if everything goes as planned. :D
My training scheduele right now looks like this:
Mon: Kyokushin
Wed: Kyokushin
Sun : Kyokushin
I will also try mixing in some sort of cardio, strenght training and some technique training the days off dojo class.
That will be all for now. :)

Dojo training.
A real intense warm up with lots of leg excersise and sprints. Plyo squats, lunges etc.
Kihon:
Practiced a lot of movement between sanchin dachi and kiba dachi and mixed in was of course my new techniques for 6kyu, combinations with uraken shomen ganmen uchi, uraken sayu ganmen uchi, uraken mawashi uchi and yohon nukite.
The new techniques were real fun and intresting to practise and it felt real good.
Kata:
Worked mostly on pinan sono ni. I ony need to say one thing and it's MORE practise. :)
Kumite:
Got hit in the first round diretctly on the inside of my knee with a low kick and that did hurt like Osu-JP1 . So that was all the kumite training for that day. The knee feels a little better now but it still hurts so I hope nothing serious is damaged.
I wish you all a good day/night

Osu Jcbel!
The grading went and felt well actually. My strong part of this grading was kihon which felt like flowing water this time :) .
The kata part went quite ok but I feel I need more improvement on kata overall in the future.
It was my first grading with kumite and I think I managed to perform quite well based on my grade of course. I took a real beating anyway and I am still feeling pain in my legs and the grading were nerely 3 weeks ago now hehe :D .

I think taking a beating happens regardless of grade... :D
Well I shouldn't speak for people who can actually fight, unlike me. :p

Great to see another training journal, Cypher! These can be great motivation for all. :)

Thanks alot for the motivation!
Now I will be off for some easy running. (my knee still hurts so I will take it easy today). Actually I haven't been running at all for almost 6months so I will give the body an easy start to avoid injurys. :D
Have a nice weekend!

A big congratulations on passing your 7th kyu test, Cypher. I remember during my 7th kyu grading, one of my dojo mates puked all over me!! (That was the second time that has happened to me in the dojo!).

I remember during my 7th kyu grading, one of my dojo mates puked all over me!! (That was the second time that has happened to me in the dojo!).
One of the funnier (and / or disturbing) puke stories I've heard was someone was feeling ill during their grading and was about to blow when the instructor caught him and said, "IN YOUR GI!!"
So he puked into his own gi and the best part was this was just before kumite - they went straight into it and people tried not to punch him too hard because of all the "splashy" sounds that were made on contact!

Thank you very much! Ohh that was quite unsuspected I believe?
The running yesterday felt real good, I think I ran about 4km in quite an easy tempo. I finished the running with a total of 100 yoko and 100 mae keage kicks to loosen up the hips :) . I have to work hard on increasing my hip flexibility.

Time for an update!
Sunday: Trained alot of kata, focused on making every step explosive. Worked through Taikyoku sono 1-3 and Sokugi katas 1-3.
Kumite: Did about 6 rounds of kumite and I don't know why but I became exhausted after only a couple of rounds. I hope I have not caught a cold or something. :( .
I have to work more on my jodan mawashi geris but I think that I have improved alot on the height of the kick these last past months but I have still lots of work to be done before it's solid.

Welcome back Cypher :)
Osu!
Domo arigato Fred :) .
Monday:
warm up: A lot of sprints, jumps of different kinds, and some partner drills with focus on foot work.
kihon: Worked through nearly all punches and blocks up to 5kyu from fudo dachi.
All blocks, punches and kicks for 5kyu from zenkutsu dachi, sanchin dachi.
Kumite: Did about 8 rounds total and I focused on trying some new techniques and combinations. One of my problems in kumite is that I get stuck in the same pattern and use the same combinations over and over again. . I tried to mix in ushiro geri but I need tons of practise to get the timing right.
End of training.
I don't now if I have wrote it somewhere on the forum but I passed my 6kyu grading in december.

Thank you very much both of you!
Wednesday:
Warm up: Combinations in kumite dachi. Different kinds of squats, sprints and core stability.
Kihon: Did my first awkvard steps in moro ashi dachi. I felt it quite difficult to keep the feet pointing forward after a couple of rounds, they turned slowly more inwards after each round. Guess it's because the stance resembles of sanchin dachi.
Added shotei techniques and they feel better for each practise. The shotei technique that gives me the worst headache is chudan shotei uke. I find it hard to get the hand position right and still perform a natural blocking movement.
Kumite: Did about 8 rounds and I focused on my new combinations. We did 2rounds with punches to the face to force a longer distance between our partner. The punches to the face were just feints but it was a really different feel to the kumite when you couldn't stand close to your partner.
End of training.

Time for an update :D
I made 5th kyu in june and it was by far the toughest grading by all means in my karate journey. Kihon and kata for about 2hours and then 7rounds of kumite with fresh opponents each time.
The thing I have to improve the most to the next grading is my power in each technique, I tend to lose to much power when I get tired but I guess it's all a matter of stamina.

My plan is to work on my kihon with sets of around 30reps of each technique and really focus on delivering both fast and strong techniques on every rep.
The power is really not the problem , the problem is to combine both power and speed. I tend to slow down the techniques as I get more and more tired so I guess I need more reps within each set of kihon technique.

So you're getting tired during the Kihon portion of the Grading?

I'm not sure if I am misunderstanding you but isn't it normal to get tired during the kihon part of a grading? I am always dead tired after a dojo class with focus on kihon with ido geiko.

Monday: Dojo training - kumite
Worked through lots of partner drills with "easy" combinations and counters
with an extra twist. My favourite counter was a soto uke block with the gyaku hand followed directly by a tskuki with the same hand. It worked really well with my long arms.
Several rounds of kumite with a new partner each time.
Not much to say about this, I did get in a couple hits with the new counters
but my energy was quite low towards the end but I did my best and that's
all you can do. :)

I supposed the difficulty is determining level of tiredness. It's ok to be sweating and breathing hard, but not ok to be unable to continue. Then it sounds like too much resistance in your movements.
I did my best and that's
all you can do. :)
Quite right!
