By reading comments, it seems that Stepin was in critical conditions after this knockout. Lechi visited him afterwards in a hospital. Osu.
Very bad knock outs can be really scary. Normally when a fighter gets knocked out he walks off the tatami a few minutes later, aided by the medical staff, or they get stretchered off, ussually as a precaution. But you can see they will be alright. On rare occasions it gets scary, ussually when you see the medical staff pick up pass and when you see them get agitated.
Heard about a Dutch fighter who got knocked out for a third time within a 6 months period. Last time he couldnt even remember being on the tatami anymore, kept asking his coach when he was up and who his opponent was gona be.
Knock outs can really shake a fighters confidence, some never recover completely in that department.

Isn't there a rule that after a knockout you should not be into competition for a certain period or do you have to use common sense ?

I think it's after a knock-out to the head you're barred for 6 months for competing and after that only with a doctor's permission. So a knock-out that didn't go to the head is treated it common sense

No rules i think.. but if any of my fighters would get knocked out i wont let them fight until i get a writen OK from their General Practisioner. And after a second knockout in a 6 months window i would urge for a CT-scan. I also think some proffesional boxing associations have a 6 months no contest rule about a bad knock out or more than one knock out in a certain time frame (6 months or so)

(to comment on helenosch`s post, i am only talking about ko`s to the head, not knockdowns to any other part of the body, have only seen 1 ko by a non head or neck shot)

Osu nzproud,
He probably got an all OK from the medical checkup before that match...
And Badr Hari is a professional that gets starting money and more if he wins. Some fighters get a percentage of the ticket sales.
But i think your pointing in the right directing. If we say that boxing has it all worked out safety wise, and kyokushin is the other end of the spectrum (amateurs, no prize money simple medical checks, and no recordkeeping of previous injuries) then i guess kickboxing is in between those two. The medical checks are better, there is ussually more more money available for medical staff during the fights and there are records beeing kept (even if its sometimes only for the statistics)

NZProud, you know Senpai Warren yeah?
When he went to NY for the All Americans a couple years ago he fought Lechi in the first round, lost but was the only guy to fight Lechi in that tournie that didnt get knocked out. The guy directly after Warren got KO'd, ushiromaewashi, apperently he stopped breathing for a period of time while being worked on in the staging area!

Anyone know if Lechi Kurbanov made any more "casualties" this way?
