I have read about this a while ago, some of you may be interested in helping out.

Folding@Home Distributed Computing (http://folding.stanford.edu/)

Folding@Home is a distributed computing project -- people from through out the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer makes the project closer to our goals.

What is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease? Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines (http://folding.stanford.edu/science.html#nano)." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold (http://folding.stanford.edu/science.html#fold)." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.

Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases (http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-diseases.html), such as Alzheimer's (http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-diseases.html#AD), Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's (http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-diseases.html#HD), Parkinson's (http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-diseases.html#PD) disease, and many Cancers (http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-diseases.html#Cancer) and cancer-related syndromes.

Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (aliens). You might be thinking of mensa, though the guys at SETI are pretty clever :)

Yes that's what I've heard about searching ET, but honestly I never think about mensa(anyway I don't really understand about mensa)~~

Could be worth to mention that you can help much by installing folding@home on your playstation3, due to its powerful processor. it`s actually far more powerful than the average home computer. I set my ps3 up so that it starts folding@home automatically if the machine hasnt been used for 20 mins.
they also got this status page with some stats about your contribution, active users and so on.
