Osu,

Im quite a new person on this site, still trying to find out how it works. I have read a lot of interesting opinions so far, so I think I'll stay.
Im from Hungary, I belong to IKO3 and I really think Im lucky to find masters like mine. They all showed me what is the real way when doing Kyokushin. As often as possile I go back to referee in tournaments, to take part in international camps, or to grade (he next in three years).
Here I train in an IKO1 dojo, but it doesn't really matter. I do my best as before and teach those who want to learn.
So happy to be here!!!!!

Osu,
Niki

In between I have been practising a lot of other styles and diciplines...

If I heal up enough by this summer (fingers crosses) I will be training hard again to make up for lost time :) If any of you are in Saudi Arabia look me up for some rolling, knockdown kumite, or thaiboxing sparring :)

I appreciate the kind words Dent :) It's a job/steady employment and the Army has been good to me. I had visitors from my unit every day and hardly a minute went by that somebody from the med section of my unit wasn't with me so I feel I owe something back. Be it that that "something" may be small but every little bit counts.
On a lighter note, the female nurses where I was for surgery/recovery thought I was some kind of "special forces stud" or something by the visitors I had from my unit..when I told one of the nurses what my job really is she still didn't believe me! I felt like Steven Seagal in Under Siege when he tells somebody something like "I'm just a cook", haha.

I've been through colorado but not the most familiar with it. I know of Senpai Sky's and the Satory dojo...and of course, Enshin in Denver. I should be there for a good 3 years...so hopefully I'll be recovered enough this summer'ish to start training again :) hopefully.

Nice to hear about the better job! Well done!

I went to the Springs in search of a Kyokushin Dojo, but was disappointed not to find one there. I think Denver is your best bet, and if you live just north of CS, it really doesn't take long to get there.

LOL - Kyofighter used to live in the area until about a year ago!

I know, he's the one that got me to join this site! got me in touch with Sky why I competed in a kyokushin tournament, etc...if I was in the area years ago I would have room mated with him when he was looking for a room mate. Kyofighter is a good guy.

You know what I mean right when someone asks "WHere are you from?" and you've been to at least three different locations and never stayed in either location longer then the other, yet you have a birth certificate from a particular state making it your only connection to a "home".

I know what that's like. In the past 10 years I've spent three years in Japan, two in Singapore, and about five in Vancouver. Vancouver wins by default, I guess.

I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba but I don't really have any reason to go back to that mosquito-infested minus 40 degree winter (the best half of the year) place.

That is how I feel about Louisiana. I do not miss it enough to go back (except for the food and the remaining family members). Nothing about the triple digit hear in the summer, foolish, ignorant people who choose to stay that way and not find something better for themselves who would much rather make fun of you for getting educated! LoL, its comedy central when I go home! Yeah, I'm glad I left.

I have been training in Kyokushin for about a year and 2 months in Kyoto, Japan.
I am doing my masters in Japan and thought it would be interesting if I could learn a martial art here as well.
I immediately fell in love with this art because it is very effective and gives you also discipline in your live overall.
I train with Japanese people so I hope I can contribute to this forum, though I am still a white belt hehe

I am new to the online community here. I am 39 and just discovered the joy that is WYKKO karate in February of 2009. I have found my soul & spirit nourished and challenged through the practice of karate. I earned my 10th Kyu in June and am testing for 8th Kyu on August 15th. I plan to dedicate myself to my karate practice for the rest of my life and hope to earn my 1st degree black belt by August 2011. I am most fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from my sensei, who is inspirational, informative, and an amazing role model. I am also fortunate to practice karate in a community of others who are striving for excellence, like Sandman. Sandman is a great example of what spirit means, and I strive to follow his example.

I take karate class 4 nights per week and practice basics, sparring endurance, & kihon kata shodan on the other 3 days/week.

I am so glad to have found a forum to talk about karate because I think I have bored my husband to tears with all of my karate talk! :p

It is my honor to meet you all.

Thanks, Sandman. Are you going to Sunshine Classic on August 22nd? I am trying to make plans to go, but I don't have any details yet. If you have details or know how to get them, let me know, ok? I plan to do 27 Movements & Kihan Kata Shodan, if I am allowed to compete in two katas. This will be my first tournament ever!

You are definitely a great role model and mentor for me and my little ninjas. My daughter tries to kiyai as loud as you everytime she kiyais! I am going to keep practicing those combos you taught us last night in my training Fri-Sun. My kicks with my front legs are lame right now; hopefully that will improve over time.

Thanks, Sandman! Osu!

I doubt I'll be able to make the tournament - I've never been to that one in fact. Id like to go, but I think that is the weekend we are celebrating my little boy's birthday.... As for the kata competition, you'll have to choose just one. Unless you tie with someone you'll only get to do it once - in case of a tie you could probably do a different one, but I don't think that happens very often. Just choose the one that feels the most natural for you. And your kicks will get better if you just keep practicing - you are doing just fine. Osu!

I didn't know of any Kyokushin dojo in Charlotte if you're referring to me? I know of one somewhere else in NC that I question. Please post your dojo on this forum for others to find that are in the Charlotte area. Please stop by and introduce yourself, hope you enjoy your stay here.
Osu!

Take that back I have known of this gym www.ultimate-gym.com

I was in the Fayetteville, NC area for about 2.5 years and unfortunately couldn't find anything close to knockdown karate or good kickboxing so I trained BJJ/mma at Team ROC. Charlotte and Seaboard were too far for me to really train or I would have. I had a weird job that would often times require me to leave and immediately be at work weird hours of the day and night. If you're the sensei at ultimate gym I wasn't referring to you. Another poster on this forum showed a dojo a year or so ago about a kyokushin dojo that looked very odd in NC.

Osu,
Thanks for your reply. I was just wondering where for contact purposes. I would like to gather all the Knockdown practioners in NC area for some group training. I am still learning my way around. I am personally familier with the Enshin instructor in Charlotte and Kyokushinkan instructor in Chapel Hill. I have trained with them both. The instructor in Seaboard has a very good history as well. Outside of the three I don't know anyone else.

Please stop by the introduction thread. Out of curiosity, what unit are you in? You're very fortunate to be stationed near Seoul or in Seoul.

I'm in 10th SFG here at Carson but I'm a short timer, was at Bragg for a few years, too.

Makes being where you're stationed easier when you can find a good dojo nearby! Instead of the regular "cage fighters" that have done combatives with tapout stickers on their trucks.

I actually tried to go to SOCKOR or SFD-K before coming here. I gave up on 1st SFG in Okinawa a long time ago *sigh*.

Stay away from that soju, too!

I think it is very difficult to learn on their own without any basic skills. Can try to use the video lessons, but it seems to me that such training does not make sense. It is very important to work in contact with the coach and partner. You can not learn to fight if you're going to beat the air.

Please follow this advice. If the content you are about to post would be inappropriate for your Dojo wall, it is inappropriate here.

Osu!

From Tracy, CA.

I've organized a meet-up in Livermore CA to determine interest for a training group. Please check it out if your interested. It's tough finding Kyokushin in the S.F. bay area (especially East Bay), and within a reasonable drive of the Livermore/Tracy area where I live...but I'm still trying to find training partners. I pretty sure I have a nice training space at Las Positas College if I can find sufficient interest. Please feel free to contact me.

Osu! Blugularis: Where is the Ashihara dojo?

I live in Tracy, CA and I'm about 65 miles from downtown San Francisco and nearly the same distance from San Mateo. There are World Oyama dojo's in each of those places but the problem I face is time. A commute to SF by the rail system (BART) is generally quickest but it takes me about 90 minutes each way. I really like my dojo there but in my new schedule--it's not working out. So, I'm left trying to make for some sort of an alternative. My thought was if I can't get to the mountain (Oyama means mountain in Japanese (I think)), then I should try to make for some alternative.

Please let me know about the Ashihara dojo. Thanks!

actually, maybe your best bet is to start a karate club at the college? this way you can advertise for free in the student paper, there are probably some students from japan, who might join you, maybe kyokushinkai, enshin, or ashihara if you are lucky, I've seen such rarities as Japan Nidan in Shorinji Kempo in podunk Idaho, at a small college there, they started a club.

Hello there,

I am from Brazil. I have praticed Kyokushin from 93 to 97. Officially I have reached the 6th-kyu, but the sensei Francisco Feitosa broke up with international Kyokushin Organization to an independent style. With him I have reached the 3rd-kyu.

Back to Kyokushin on 2007 to 2008 I attended to Marcos Costa academy in São Paulo.

Now, I am back since february, on Liberdade's Dojo, training with Shihan Seiji Isobe's son, Sensei Riyuji Isobe.

I am moving to Chicago in august, so I am looking for a new dojo to continue my training, this time, till the end of my life.

Moving! Well, I may really need to change my screen name..(which reflects the zip code from several years and several moves ago) but my family and me are moving again: coming to you soon from Dickinson, North Dakota! I have to ask...anyone know of any Kyokushin Dojo's there or even any practitioners? Osu!

I'm not saying you should do this, you understand, but hypothetically, if you should come across some furry roadkill in the middle of winter, you might have some fun with a friend by sticking said roadkill to the hood of their car with lots of quickly freezing water. Lots.

Oh, the laughs you'll share....... ;)
