View Full Version : after k2 2008 k4l meet.

now i`m well aware this time of the year people are more interested in summer holidays and that sort of thing but october is creeping up.
as i have stated in previous posts i think it best to switch the meet to crawley rather than croydon....due purely to everybodys convenience.
tmd and myself are in the process of finding the most suitable venue near to k2 and the arora hotel [this is where a lot of kyokushin people are staying]
the most important thing we need is numbers.....the first thing any publican is going to say is,"how many people?".....obviously at the moment we have no idea!!
now i do understand things happen and people have to cry off at the last minute but i would be really helpful if you could state your intent.
whatever happens tmd and myself with our wives are going.....i understand bloke and his irish drinking team, gary, dkkc,niceguy,lucy,walshy are going to attend....it would be nice to see pheezy and his scottish drinking team.......??

not to mention our friends from wales!?........................................... ................. and the rest of the world!!!!?
so please would you state your intent.........in this thread..........and help us organise. thanks!! OSU-EN2
p.s everybody is welcome..you do not have to be a k4l member......... just an interest in karate and having a good time.....and perhaps by the end of the evening we might have a few more members...........if anybody has any suggestions or ideas about the meet, please do not hesitate to post.

So you know the hotel will have an area roped of near the bar for anyone involved with the tournament. It also has its own pub in the hotel separate to the normal bar/lounge.
There is a foot bridge to a nightclub approx 600m away.
It is a very convienent place for people to meet up and socialise after the event.
I am hoping this is where bloke be drinking as he knows i have better staying power than him

after consulting a few people we have decided to have the meet at the arora hotel+bar as a convenience to everybody.
i am not going to organise any food etc because it is readily available and also our members are not forthcoming with numbers......so the way i see it is....it doesn`t really matter how many or how few of us turn up.
i understand this is also the bkk hotel of choice so there are bound to be some interesting people there as a bonus.
again no time...just when the tournament finishes......see you all there.OSU-EN2
also many thanks to dmp for his suggestion, this has killed quite a few birds with one stone!!!
of course if anybody has any comments/suggestions...please post.

I recommend copying what Sato-Sensei did at the last NY-NJ meet, Name cards with K4L on them, so we could meet each other, as well as spark interest from others.
(I have reason to believe there will be significant interest. Kyokushin4Life, care to explain? :) )

Hasbeen has cleared up my confusion over DMP - I should have guessed to be honest. It should be a good day and night all round.
Also with the ad appearing in the magazine we should get some interested parties.

I have booked the hotel and my flights - I dont have to get up too early on Sunday after the meet - flight back isnt until 15.30.

We've just bought a new camera for Mrs TMD so don't sweat it boss well be there, junior miss TMD will be at K2 so mind your language you lot..cunningly she is traveling up with a mate so we can head on to the after party :D.

Ouch. Not cool on their part. I wish members would have the courtesy to discuss these decisions with their Sensei. If the Sensei ever bailed on an event without giving a reason, then there would be all sorts of hurt feelings...

As one who had the opportunity to compete 18 years ago and had 'girls - I mean better things to do' I gotta say they'll regret it - here I am now, nearly 40 and training myself to busting point (yes I have another bleedin injury :() just to try and give it one more go at the National level. And no Hasbeen I don't mean this year I'm still way off...

You'd think! - My little tourney is only 4 weeks after and...I've pulled a muscle in my calf last Saturday training with DKKC and the rest of the BKK guys and girls it's not healing very quickly (welcome to being 39) so it's stopping me doing any bag work or sparing :mad:, I've had to give up booze coz I'm trying to drop to light weight for the Welsh Open which is 3 weeks after our tourney, oh and the misses now can't come so I'm driving :confused: :(
Still looking forward to it enormously, obviously :D

if anybody wants a lift to the hotel i have got two spaces in my car......i am going to leave my car at the hotel and pick it up sunday, anybody else who wants to do this the hotel charge is £10.00 for overnight parking.
i have ironed my best drinking trousers for the meet, can`t wait:D

Right!! Been there, drunk the ... orange juice ... but I had a hard time locating some of the k4l-ers. Hasbeen, tmd, GJEChamberlain, Walshy, Bloke, Lucy - I've managed to spot and chat with, but Niceguy (and others) where were you???? These guys are ninjas not Kyokushin - I tell you!!!!

Sorry guys! Unfortunately I have to leave just when I got to the hotel:(! My sensei(the designated driver :D)politely informed me grading was to be done the following morning and there he was going back to London in a hurry. So I have to leave. I am very sorry for not saying goodbye but I hope you guys had fun, hadsbeen- rain check on that drinks.
Did meet gary,tmd, hasbeen and lucy during the competition, but a darn shame I did not stay to see the rest of the k4l crew. Ous

You were still awesome!!!!!! I did grade this morning but I was a bit unhappy about my performance:(, but then again I like to be perfect:D

Nothing bad in being unhappy about your performance! The only way to improve is never to be completely satisfied with your performance! I'm sure you did well enough to pass, let us know when you find out!

Well it was a pleasure to meet you walshy (albeit fleetingly)
Had a really great time Saturday but was having to take pain killers like they were smarties won't bore any of you with the why just to say sorry to Welshy as I know they make me talk even more than normal and you, you poor lad had to listen to most of it :o.
Got to spend some decent time with the Champ - DKKC, Gary and Has-Been which was really enjoyable - Bloke you got a better offer and I take no offense, I was comparing Kyokushin to Golf for heaven sake! I would have left!
Niceguy you are the scarlet K4L; I was relying on you for the pics as my camera ran out :o. - best you post the ones you did capture.
And Lucy, you were fighting a cold more than you were fighting the other girl and we could all see it; I've said it before but it's worth saying again, just to get on the mat at a full contact event is a victory in itself - oh and you looked fantastic at the afters BTW.
Reckon we need to do a K4L day - proper meet up, like has been suggested before a sort of summer/ winter camp; each member takes a session kinda thing - have passport am prepared to travel (Dublin would be favorite :)

Hasbeen, sorry I didnt get to the meet, we went for a meal after we got back to our hotel and then it was very late by the time we finished (too late for an old crock like me) but I believe the boys went to a club, (I went to bed!) young Mr Conroy was a sorry state in the morning.
