KYOKUSHIN KARATE SUIT / GI ? FREE POSTAGE!!! on eBay, also Uniforms, Clothing Footwear, Martial Arts, Sporting Goods (end time 21-Mar-09 08:20:47 GMT) (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KYOKUSHIN-KARATE-SUIT-GI-FREE-POSTAGE_W0QQitemZ300288193637QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK _Sporting_Goods_Martial_Arts_Clothing_LE?hash=item 300288193637&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1688|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18)

Is this the one? It looks pretty much like one of mine but at a much nicer price :D It should be okay for training but maybe check with your dojo. We had to have specific embroidery on ours in one dojo I trained at.

Assuming it is the link KvW provided.
Hard to say anything about the gi quality with only a few lines of text and a picture from a catalog to go by. It does not say what brand/make it is. Quality could be crap, or it could be very good. no way to tell without looking at it or knowing the producer. So from that point of view it is a bit of a gamble.

The sleeves looks a bit short for standard kyokushin design. Although the "fashion trend" at the moment is short sleeves and very long pants, it COULD be a problem in some dojos and at some competitions.
But it is very unlikely someone will be that petty minded, especially since you are a beginner.

and as it is your first Gi -sure. it looks like a decent buy. Over time, you will most likely end up buying several Gi´s to alternate between, anyway.

It might be better for you to actually get one from your instructor. This way you can see the material. There are thin ones and thick ones. If you're serious about Kyokushin and you can see yourself sticking with this then I would get the thicker stronger material. It will last you for years.

That one from that link looks like a good one.

Kyoksuhin UK Limited (Shihan Liam Keaveney) sell`s isami`s. They cost dearer (79 pounds UK or so, last time i checked), but i havent looked anywhere else since i wore my first isami... (somewhere in the 1990`s). I have 6 myself. Sosai supposedly had some say in how they were made/designed first and they havent deviated much from there ever since. The jacket is thicker so it can contain more sweat and the pants are thinner/lighter for easier kicking and fatser movements. Also the fit/cut is very good (yes yes... i am an isami fan)

Goodluck

I haven't any complains. I have 2 gi's. 1 black label and 1 red label. Personaly i prefer the black label.

But the price is okay. € 60,- for the black label.

I received a free Ichiban t-shirt when I was in Holland last, it had the Kanji embroidered on the chest and the finish and detailing were excellent. Assume its the same for the gi's too.

I then subsequently lost the tshirt when not paying attention whilst leaving the gym.

Nothing like the Isami though...

Osu!

Our K4L member Kelvin owns a company that produces nice quality Dogi at a reasonable price. I'll definitely be getting more from him.

I wouldn't trust the gi you get to look like that picture from the eBay auction. That picture is of Andrews Nakahara taken from World Karate and I know because I have that issue (I'm 99% sure he is wearing an Ichigeki gi).

Can I piggyback on this thread and ask people what the smallest size gi is?

My best friend is having a baby and he's looking at buying a gi (for the baby). Now, I could make one, but I'd rather buy one if I can as I'm sure it'll look a lot better!

Thank you!

Am reading this right? How can a pair of trousers improve the speed of a kick? What's next? A gi that works out for you? :D

Less resistence against the kicking power versus restriction I would presume. Along the lines of wearing a heavyweight gi then switching to lightweight after training in it for quite a bit of time.

I have no time to read through the descriptions but smoothsake has made an important point.

The picture features a famous person wearing a Karate Gi. It is just like you are now buying a blouse with a picture of Kate Moss wearing it.

Either they are selling the authentic thing that he is wearing, same brand, or some rip-off that you cannot guarantee the quality is better or worse when compared with the original till you receive it. It is no use to use the picture as a guide to what you will actually get. Try ask for a picture of the actual goods.:)

The pants are actually darn nice. If Kelvin goes the whole hog on these, I think I'm going to buy several pairs, and switch them for all my others. (I need every advantage I can get! :D )

Osu! All,

The pant’s material is the magic; most people have their gi pant make of cotton twill (eg. Isami Gi ).
Cotton Twill material is thin, but don’t stretch. When you are doing a Jodan mawashigeri, while lifting your kick the material will restrict your knee and slow you down. Same thing goes to doing a knee kick.
Try this at home with your cotton twill gi pant and try again with a pair tights, you’ll feel the different.

But cotton lycra materials allow you to do your kick with no restriction and smoother. The material is also light weight and durable. The feeling is like wearing a pair of tights with a stronger skin.

Check with Dent, he has got a pair.
