View Full Version : [Others] Common Wealth Games
Osu,
I was not sure where to place this notice but this was the only place to post it I could think off.
The CommonWealth games will be :D held in South Africa this year, in September.
I still need to verify the dates and the venues because I myself have just been informed.
:( am always the last to know.....
As soon as I know the dates will keep you posted, unless there is someone who can quickly update....
Hoping to see most of you.Osu-EN1
Do mention if you will be coming
Osu!
Please keep us posted, Masedisa! Looking forward to a full report!
Osu!
Osu,
The Common Wealth Games will be held on the 10 - 11th October at The Standard bank Arena in Johannesburg, South Africa. Have currently not heard of the programme and other related information, but will post everything by the end of the week.
Osu
to everyone else who will be participating,
GOOD LUCK!!
Would like to make a correction on the dates..
The dates are the 16th and 17th October at the Standard Bank Arena, johannesburg, South Africa.
Will post thee results and some of the videos as I will be attending, not as a participant though. Individuals that I know are attending have really prepared for the event and as far as I have seen and heard them....... it will be an event that will be remembered.
Yesterday (15/10/2009) the arrival and registration of teams begun.
Teams that were present (the ones I confirmed with while there, at the Standard bank Arena) were Team:
India, Italy, Ghana, South Africa (ofcourse):D, Cameroon and Botswana.
Participants from age 8 were ready with full spirits, though that nervous feeling is always there, looking out at people guessing who is in your division.
Did not have enough time to take photos because I was busy allocating people to the right stations & registration, but I will get fotos tomorrow definetly.... (though I am having trouble posting fotos on every forum!!) but I will find a way.
I am doing full contact, (did do semi before - shotokan), so giving a helping hand to other styles has never been an issue, have acquired friends from that style so any event they do (or any other style, as long there's kicking and punching, I AM THERE)
Made friends from yesterday - though they assume that I am 16-18 years but hey why not...for that meantime :D.
The hall and arrangements are all in order, tatami has been laid, 3 - 5 rings, to accommodate all categories, expecting more countries to arrive today (actually they are, am still at work), and from what have been told, the hall is already full...before the actual event.
Have not been told of anybody famous (popular) people, but all information will be given 2 days from today....
As usual, a whole lot of merchandise is being sold, and for a first time - in my life - I saw an outfit that is made for dogs (oodles, maltese, pitbulls) that are sold....... and there is also mechandise for under 3 year olds......
Halloween is around the corner...........:D
Further than that, GOOD LUCK to all participants.

Osu!
Thank you Dent, but I will not be participating.:) Am preparing for an International tournament coming next month (full-contact), will give details once date confirmed on the 25th Oct.
Osu,
I am a bad person, have been forgetting to post and I apologise.
One reason is that I could not fully attend the event since my sister was getting married the same day AND there was a tournament the same day, and all events were one hour drive apart.... and that was a hustle.
I have contacted two of the Shihans to assist me with footages and end-results of the event (Common Wealth) so that I can post through but none have come back to me. I have heard though that the event went wll and it was one of the greatest thngs to happen before the 2010 FIFA CUP and the exposure that it has made was overwhelming on the day of event.
I apologise again for any inconveniences but until I get the final results, there is not much I can tell since I was not there.

Dear Masedisa,
I was at the event as a member of the National Executive - was on the stage most of the time. Have we met? I often interact with Shihan Sabela and have known Shihan's Thage and others for years. I also hosted Kancho Matsushima in Cape Town a few years back.
Where are you based?
I've added the results of the event on the Karate South Africa website.
We now hosting the African Seniors championships in August and normally arrange an array of events for KSA. Over next weekend we having an Imbizo in Bloemfontein and all are expected to bring their dogi for training.

Osu Ashiharakaicho,
I didn't notice much on the stage, as I was assisting with Shihan Tau (coach of the JKA / Shotokan RSA Team), and had to rush for a tournemt in PTA to check if all was in order with my students and then to my sister's wedding beginning at 12pm, but have noticed people on and off the stage...maybe if you can describe what you were wearing :D. ......Looking at your avatar I think we have met at the USSA Karate Tournament 2009 in PE?!?! Unless am mistaken.
The 2 Shihans you have mentioned are in my organisation and Shihan Thage is my Branch Chief (was with him yesterday for a short meeting).
I am based in GP (Gauteng Province).
Kindly PM me on the Imbizo that will be held in Bloemfontein (date and time), have been forwarded the programme but was not confirmed nor does it have any exact venues and times. Have to check with my work schedule too , eish, that always gives me a hustle...
Thank you for the information and intro, hopefully to see and meet you.
Will PM you my email address and contacts for a just in case. Keep well.

Osu,
I was at the USSA tournament - my wife. daughter and some others was with as well. I also gave the Sabaki section of the training session and demonstrated some of our anti-grappling techniques also.
At the Commonwealth and USSA event, I had on my green Protea blazer. If you check the KSA site at http://www.karatesa.org/html/n_e_c_.html you can see a ID pic of me. I serve as the Full Contact convenor.
One of my sandan's live in Vosloorus, so I often stay over with him. His late Dad Joe Ngcobo was oure Gauteng rep and in the seventies Joe had fought against Peter Thage.
I know Shihan Peter from the late seventies. We've met frequently the last few years. I see Shihan Sabela more. The imbizo is for affiliated members to KSA, so the invites comes from KSA to the regions and they send reps to the event.
Drop me a mail and we can chat offline - see below.
