I like the mix of striking and grappling in Combat Sambo. Here's a nice little intro.

Interesting how with the Gracies' success we saw a rise in BJJ, and now with Fedor's success we will likely see a spike in Sambo popularity.

By the way, within the last week Reilly asked me about Daido juku and I told him where it's at so don't be surprised if you see him at Kudo in NY on saturdays.

Osu! The Gracies', besides being masterful grapplers, really know how to market a product. I'm not sure Fedor is in the same league, business wise. It would be nice to see though.

Excellent. Thanks for passing the word, powerof0ne. There's no class next week due to the '09 World Hokutoki sucking up our instructor and student base like a black hole.

I told him that it was cancelled before due to the hokutoki. I'm not sure if you know which Reily I'm referring too..Reilly from the sambo videos you're posting, he's the assistant at that school if I remember right.

It's also a great school I'd recommend to anyone in the NY area to check out. They're very active in the sambo community.

The first video footage I saw of Fedor losing in the Sambo tournament was shot by Steve or Reily.

Ahh, Reilly, Steve's assistant instructor. Nope, don't know him. Steve K, I met. Nice guy and knows his stuff. It's pretty cool that Honma Sensei is a striking instructor over at NY Combat Sambo.

There are definitely some business minded Russians though.

Systema comes to mind ;)

Also, this video was posted here before and shows the Reily I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JISgLclfX3c

Reily is in the blue kurtka in the video you posted being Steve's "uke" ;)

Cool. Name to a face. Ito Sensei's buds with the BJJ club that practices the next mat over. Lot's of good cross fertilization going on at the Fighthouse. Reilly will be welcome.
