You can discuss about this in this thread.

This is Great! I can't wait to see the blogs developing, and read about the experiences, stories, and knowledge of other Kyokushin in the world.

Thank you for adding this to the forum.

ok, havent posted to this site yet, so this seems a good place to start!

I'm a 1st Dan, currently trainin g in a style based on Kyokushinkai. I'm due to go for my 2nd Dan in september but am not feeling to confident. Everything i do, apart from kumite, seems to be wrong or inadequte according to my sensei. I leave training sessions feeling demotivated and low. Kata 'kanku dai', just recently learnt this, i know the moves but still need to pause to make sure im on the right track, until im on the right track and 100% on the moves i find it hard to dedicate the focus and strength to each move, somehow how my sensei cannot see this and instead of guiding me through, he just says stuff like, too loose, no power, never a good encouraging word!! i am thinking of leaving my grading till next year as i have a feeling that mentally i wont be ready in september as this 'doubt' will let me down physically. At worst i am thinking that i should take time out or even leave...

im 37 now, could be that im getting old and slowing down?

if any one has been through this could you please let me know how you coped with this..or if you could offer some advice i will be greatfull.....

"Everything i do, apart from kumite, seems to be wrong or inadequte according to my sensei."

I was warned by a more experienced Martial artist that there comes a time in everyone's path where one will feel this way. We each experience this obstacle at different levels, and sometimes we feel it more than once. My friend told me that moments like these have to pass over me like a waterfall. I am no worse, nor any better than my last effort in training. I can choose each day to be in control of what happens regardless to what I feel, or what I think is happening. He suggested that I can say silently in my mind "It's a pity that my Sensei just doesn't appreciate how good I really am". This little sentence always brought a slight smile to my lips, and an uplifting feeling in my heart because I knew that I wasn't that good, and that I'm still on the path of getting better. Somehow, that little sentence brought my mind back on my goal that I'm just a struggling learner who is doing her best with what I have right now. I don't know if that sentence will help you to feel better inside you, maybe you need to find a different sentence/ image to help you focus beyond the negative doubts, and feelings within you. The key is that you have to look past the limitations, and mistakes towards the future goals of being strong, united, powerful, and faster. It will happen, because each day you work towards these skills, you add just a little more possibility in achieving them.

I wish you skill, joy, and fulfillment!
