I dont know if anyone has watched this programme but I have to say it was one of the best TV series I have ever seen. Great acting and a fantastic script.

It was set in the west wing of the White House (thus the title) and centered around the lives of the staff and the fictional president - played brilliantly by Martin Sheen in full on JFK mode.

It actually educated me about the US electoral system whilst entertaining me and its one of teh few TV series where I really...

I love books. Especially signed first editions. For me a book is not just about the words on the pages - its so much more. The touch and smell.

Over the yeras I have built up a small collection of books that are my Pride and Joy - I love collecting books by poets that are todays equivalent of Yeats or Kavanagh and knowing that my kids will get them after im gone.

For my 40th My wife bought me John Montagues Collected poetry in a limited edition signed by the man himself....

I entered into a series of Road races during the summer in an effort to get fit - and to some degree it worked.

There were a six 2 milers, a 3 miler, a 5km, 8km and a 10km.

I didnt do any training for the 10km and suffered badly but for all the rest I got improved times as I progressed.

Now the local running club is having a winter league of Six 2 milers - its not a particularly tough course but a little boring. I am by no means as fast as I used to be...
