Improving my jumps
Posted 07-13-2008 at 04:40 AM by supergroup7
I'm working on increasing the height of my jumps while being aware of the limitations of my older body.
I was lucky enough to stumble on this webpage that talks about such things.
The good news for me is that I have seen improvement in being able to do squats/lunges, etc. But.. how much more improvement can I do without risking injury, or causing damage?
I am asking myself if it is worth fighting for more height in jumping kicks. I am not a young competitor looking for impressive ability.
Maybe it's just the challenge of TRYING to jump just a little higher, and seeing if I can do it that keeps me working on this..
Also, I read an article called "Why does Grandma need to learn to jump?" which explains that it is very important for seniors to remind their bodies about balance, and landing from a fall. Too many senior citizens suffer injury from something as quick as a fall.. This kind of training can help prevent such a fate. So it looks like I'm going to continue working on improving my jumps.. ( but at a very quiet, cautious, and patient manner)

![]() Sounds like a good plan. I always consider the risks as well when trying something that difficult. I wish you well on the path of jumping kicks! ![]() ![]() |

I always advise against jumps in fights.. makes you more vulnerable (sweeps and takedowns, plus when ur up in the air you can move away on a quick notice, plus you tend to open up your body, your guard is not in place, and you tend to relax certain groups of muscles when you jump that you normally need for guarding you body, like your abdomen)

Thanks for the advice Ksan.
I am not aiming to use the jumps in sparring.. it's more of a personal "challenge" thing. I just want to be able to do them even if it is at a limited level. Consider it similar to "why climb a mountain?..... because it's there" type of moment. |
