"Kyokushin Damashi", the official magazine of WKO for the last decade, has now be renamed to "Karate Life". It is available from the WKO webshop.

It would seem that WKO has a good PR and Advertising team backing the organization. Does WKO have a contract with a local advertising/pr group in Japan? Or Do they have their own team within WKO?

I think Blitz is really bad. Yes, every now and then there is a good article, but mostly it's just a place for people to advertise martial arts equipment. I had about five issues of Blitz (2006 issues) and in every one of them the same advertisement appeared, which went something like this:
"Hi, I'm _______ and I've finally developed a method of combat that is truly effective!!! Forget karate, TKD and all that other traditional garbage, I teach you what really works! Anybody who's ever done karate knows its weakness: that you only learn to fight people from your style. Go to a different dojo and your skills are worthless! That's right, I'm calling all you so called "masters" nothing but phonies! Now I know I'm stepping on a lot of toes here but I don't care! I fear NO MAN!" This guy literally went on for a page like this, because he crammed a full page of tiny text into his little ad slot. I threw away all my copies of Blitz in disgust so I can't reproduce the ad word for word, not that I'd waste my time in doing so. My point is consider why a martial arts magazine would allow an ad like this into its pages, and don't say revenue because Blitz has plenty of it. Blitz is a popularity contest, not a magazine to be taken seriously by anyone over 13 years of age. |
