Kyokushin books?!
I am looking into buying one or two books on Kyokushin, mainly technique but philosophy/spirtuality is greatly appreciated as well, do you have any suggestions? (I'm a beginner by the way)

Buy them all. Seriously, no reason not to start your library, and read, compare and practice what you learn along with what you get at the Dojo. Osu!

Not a techique book at all but read The kyokushin Way by Mas Oyama and the Human Face of karate by Tadashi Nakamura. Great books.

Not kyokushin specific, but A Book of Five Rings may be a good way to start your library. It is a book that seems to grow as you do. ![]() Osu! |

Its like Dent says... there is no reason not to start your book collection... i have a few kyokushin books and i get a lot of info from it at times....
Gokui and Kensan, both by Hatsuo Royama Shihan are great knowledge basis` both on technique and philosophy (and their in English and japanese )

Now that I know that, I think Mrs Dent might have a word or two for the most excellent Ksan too! ![]() Osu!

Now with a baby bed, there are more spaces for Bloke to hide his collection.

Now you really have him worried. Me thinks a purchase of some tall, reinforced shelving will be on bloke´s shopping list. ![]() ![]() |

We have wandered slightly off topic and Ksan has put the fear of God into me (especially as I just got two new copies of John Banvilles latest - limited to 350 for sale).
I am thinking of converting the attic and turning it into a batcave for books.

It will also give you somewhere to go when the crying gets too loud...or serve as a nice substitute for a dog house, when you don't help Mrs. Bloke out as much as you should!

Kyokushin/Budo Books I own and recommend:
1. Mas Oyama's Essential Karate - Mas Oyama 2. This is Karate - Mas Oyama 3. Book of Five Rings - Musashi Miyamoto 4. The Sabaki Method - Juko Ninomiya 5. The Art of War - Sun Tzu 6. The Art of Peace - Morihei Ueshiba 7. Karate-do My Way of Life - Gichin Funakoshi 8. Karate Baka Ichidai (manga series) - Kajiwara Ikki ...that's all I can remember for now. ![]() |

FutureProdigy,
I've never heard of it, but the Funakoshi Karate-do book is an interesting read although slow at times. It is more of a recount of how Karate got introduced from Okinawa to mainland Japan, not so much about technique or style. ![]() |
