I dont think its disrespectful but you should try and learn at a steady pace. Work in the dojo and come here and ask some questions - you wont find all the answers here because it all takes practice.

![]() I thought you were talking about the opening move of the kata - from yoi to the first count. When I say 180 degree turn I'm referring to the movement on the third, eleventh and ninteenth counts (and 270 on the ninth and seventeenth counts). |

From opening to the first 180 degree turn, that would be the final takedown (over your shoulders maybe like some judo throws?)

Ah I get you now (though I thought I got you before). I think I liked what I initially thought was your idea better: throw from the first move.

I thought about that too, but can you bring someone that easy to the ground? I didn't think so but I don't know

It depends where they come at you from and can you use the right leg to trip them.

Tried it today with my sensei
![]() It really works, you don't need much force to bring someone down after you have crossed his hands |

there is no block
From what I understand in karate there is no block. The term "uke" means to receive. Those techniques that we call blocks are really receiving the opponents techniques, once you have them you are free to execute whatever you have been trained to do. If that is the case you are not so much blocking as grabbing or setting up for locks and throws. My opinion but it seems to make alot of sense.

My Bunkai for Taikyoku Ichi...
Step 1. Use the many variations of Gedan Barai, It does not matter. Step 2. the step in is a punch but could simply be a set up for the next move step three.....may be shorter or longer depending on you opponent and what you did with the Gedan Barai. Be sure to position your right leg to the outside of your opponents left leg. You want to be to their outside or or half way behind them. 3. if you punched chudan.....set up the gedan Barai ( the hand you punched with reaches around and grabs the collar, ear, shoulder chin) make the 180 degree turn and you should be able to take them down. I have found may not work as easily if the person is much taller then you. Step 4 punch is then a Kime waza |
