I recognise this - we call it Kihon kata and do it using various stances and techniques but always to the same pattern - It's a good way of warming up and getting you thinking.

Osu, my apologies, when I removed the Chion Bo kata from youtube, I also mistakenly removed these.. I don't know how to fix this because even if I upload the kata back onto Youtube, it would have a different number now and wouldn't link to this thread.
Perhaps it is best to leave things as is.. |

once you get the new links, you could simply re-post them at the end of the thread...or you can go into the original post, and do a edit, swaping in the updated links!

Osu.. Osu! O.K. There.. all is better. Thanks Vapor for helping me. Thanks Seienchin for encouraging me.
But honestly, I would feel relieved if someone with greater skill would put a real demonstration video of this kata to replace this. I really do not want people looking at my efforts, and assuming that this is how the kata should be performed. I feel that they deserve a better example than what I can provide. |

supergroup7...you are being too modest! We all appreciate the videos that you have prepared, and certainly the quality and intensity that you put into each and every movement.

Osu Vapor.. thank you.
When I made these videos, I did give the best that I had to them. I wanted to show Seienchin what my Kihon kata looked like as we were comparing it to her "Star" kata ( which I think is what I would call "Juji" kata.) To my shock, my video was placed in the demonstration section. I have to state honestly that I can clearly see how I'm doing too much hip rotation ( which I've been told is a necessary beginner process to even learn how to use the hips with techniques), and that there isn't enough strength, speed, and focus to my punches. These are only a few of the things that I can see need improvement. I know what this kata "should" look like, and I'm working towards this as best as I can every day, in every class, and I'm seeing progress, but how could I expect a university level performance from myself when I'm only in Grade 6 physically, and in knowledge? I started Karate near the age of 40, and I only have 6 years of sweat under my belt, and I was cross training for the majority of that time. At one point of my training, about 4 years in, I was expected to be able to perform 52 different kata half of them with Shotokan stance, and technique, the other half with Kyokushin stance and technique . I was thrilled when I could remember the movements of the various kata that I had to learn, and to land in the proper position when I moved. To make things even more difficult, I had to work around my physical limitations such as a damaged right hip which complained each time I did proper power, or stance. No wonder that I was near tears in confusion, and over stressed so often back then. I am so grateful that I train only in Kyokushin at this point in my life. Now, I can work towards perfecting, empowering, understanding, and focusing on improving. I am positive that this kata would look so much better, and proper if someone else demonstrated it. THEN people could look at it, and understand the body mechanics, position, power, etc. They could imitate what they see, and improve their karate. That Kata would be worthy of being in the demonstration section. My video.. yes.. it did what it was supposed to do. I don't mind putting myself on video. It's there, and it's as best as I can offer at the point that I was at the time. Intensity? :-) What is Kata without intensity?? Ha ha ha There HAS to be intensity! At least in my eyes. Osu |
