OOooooo! Wonderful! OOoooooo! I love it. It's beautiful to see your kata done outside on the grass. The kata themselves are exquisite! The great music just adds to the flavour of the video!
STANDING applause!!! I love how I can see your rhythm of the kata so well. Sure.. I like watching instructional videos where each movement is stopped to count.. but for me a kata becomes alive with spirit when you see the flow of it in their performance. Thank you so much for the gift of being able to watch these videos! You can be assured that I'll be frequenting them often. I feel shy about asking but...Would it be disrespectful for me to ask you to do Yantsu next? |

Thanks,
I will film all kata. It's good to see my mistakes, because I don't have a sensei or shihan to corect me . Osu.

Osu Sensei, I'm confused.. Are there no Kyokushin Sensei or Shihan in Denver, US able to provide this type of investment for you? Or do you live mainly in a secluded place??
I would gladly be a mirror for you if I had the skill, and knowledge, but I feel that I am too young in the Arts. Yet, I have always told others that anyone can help a person with their performance, one just has to ask the right questions. I do not know these kata, they are far above me, but maybe I can alert you to something. Please tolerate my effort in the following comments Seipai: a) Why is your oi tsuki punch at 15 seconds seem less powerful/focused than the other previous movements, is it because you are flowing quickly into the next set of techniques? b) In your tobi mae geri at 27 seconds is the power of the kick supposed to be going upwards or forwards?.. I couldn't tell. Maybe it's just my inexperience showing, but it looked like you were doing both. Is it supposed to be like that? c) On the downblock at 43 seconds.. is there supposed to be a cover arm? I'm used to seeing a cover arm on blocks. d) The yohan nukite near 52 seconds.. it's not as sharp as I've seen you do the other moves, is it supposed to be more gentle looking? Sushiho: a) Oh boy.. I feel like I'm over my head here.. but what I did was look at a video of Sushiho done by Kancho Matsui and compare it with yours. When Kancho does the first three moves, his feet are closer together... they look like he is doing Moro Ashi Dachi. I'm sorry.. but when I watch you do the first three movements, it looks like you are doing a wider sanchin dachi to me. b) Osu.. I'm so mesmerized by your movements.. especially with the speed of them that it is hard for me to catch things. It would be easier if you were moving in slow motion... but I did notice at 25 seconds that your Hidari Jun tsuki is going in a different direction than Kancho Matsui's. Kancho seems more angled than you are.. or maybe that is the camera angle that makes that illusion. c) Kancho does 2 hiji age in a rising manner, while you are doing one Mae hiji uchi. Is this an organization difference? Oh dear.. I'm out of time.. I'm sorry.. I tried.. I sincerely tried to give you somethings to look at from my eyes. Kancho's video is here: YouTube - Kata , by kancho Matsui (great) |

Thanks for the comments .
Seipai : a. the oi tsuki it doesn't seem so hard because yoy need to keep the other hand on the top , so you can't pull it back in hikite to make the strike harder. b. i was showed that way, up and forward mae tobi geri c.your right about this one, I only did half ass pre-block d.same with the yohon nukite, but I almost lost ballance when I turned Sushiho At sushiho I kinda messed up the part where the yoko geris and kiba dachi with hijis are done. I learned it in so many ways from different groups and shihans that now I'm a little confused. I will post the version how in the book is done. Don't compare it with the one that Kancho Matsui does. I'm not in IKO 1 anymore, I used to be able to do it the way he does it, but now I follow the kata of hanshi Steve Arneil , from the book he published in '84. Yesterday I just took my camera, put the gi on and did these katas at one try . I just wanted to see how I can perform them without warmup and without preparing before filming. Also the grass can be pretty slippery , so I had to watch my ballance. Thanks again for the comments. Osu

Osu Sensei,
My comments were given with frightened fingers as I know that I am not to correct a higher rank. Yet, I could understand how you may feel with no one to offer you an outside opinion. I thought that perhaps I could inquire about things that I saw that were different in your kata. I sure do hope that a Shihan may see fit to send you a private message about corrections of which he/she would like to make you aware. |

No problem, I can accept comments and corrections if necessary.
I would have probably not notice the mistake in sushiho without your help. Also it is moroashi dachi , not sanchin dachi at sushiho first steps. I've been a dojo leader since 8th Kyu and I only learned at seminars and camps. Sometimes I have hard times to remember who showed me what and how. I guess it doesn't matter that much, I've seen kata done in so many ways. I been living in Denver for the pas 6 and half years and there is no higher rank in Kyokushin around me in Colorado. BTW I really admire your dedication to karate, even with your big family and everything. Osu.

Osu!
Someone who is so dedicated as to take the time and effort to post themselves for all of us to see is someone who impresses me. When that same person takes the time to listen to someone else about their demonstration, and who is positive throughout, that REALLY impresses me! Have some rep, Kyofighter! Osu!

I totally agree with you Dent! Kyofighter has impressed, and inspired me so much in every manner! I'm grateful for the fact that he is willing to share his time, skill, and efforts with us in such a positive way! Osu |

OK guys, stop this now.
Kyokushin Karate is a huge part of my life , so to me this is no effort. I enjoy too seeing others perform, that's how I learned a lot , by keeping an open mind and spirit. I like to study martial arts , not just train in them. Osu.

I spotted that difference Kyofighter - in Hanshi book they are to the sides and yours seem to be at 45 degrees - though that could be the camera angle. Also it looks like there are two movements into Kiba dachi just after that missing.

That is right Bloke.
I did 45 degree and I skiped two kiba dachi. In the book the yoko geris are at 90 degrees and there are two kiba dachis at 45 degrees with two hiji ( age and mawashi ate) . I must correct it. Osu.

The thing is that I learned the kata in many ways.
I like kata a lot and even when I was only 8th Kyu I learned all kata from Kyokushin. That was back in the late 80's. Since then I went through at least 4-5 ways to perform kata. Now that i joined IFK three years ago and I have a book I must adapt again. Osu.
