Sogo Karate Seminar @ The Fighthouse...september 16th..nyc!!!

I'm pleased to announce that SOGO KARATE has been approved by the New
York State Athletic Commission for full competition. With that being
said, Brian Wright of Takemichikaikan Karate will be hosting a seminar @ the fighthouse on September 16th. He will be putting everyone through a vigorous workout under the newly
adopted SOGO KARATE rules. Drills, Sparring, technique breakdown.
It's a good way for everyone to get a REAL workout and learn about
the exciting new sport in New York. The Seminar is only $25 in advanced to
enter or $30 @ the door. It will run from 12pm - 3pm. The fighthouse is located @ 122
west 27th street, New York, NY 10001 on the 2nd floor. Everyone
needs to bring open-fingered gloves, Preferrably a WHITE gi (one that
is strong enough for grappling), Shin / Instep pads, Mouth piece,
Groin Protection, and head gear (if you have it)

SOGO KARATE is a form of knockdown karate that adds the elements of takedowns, throws and submissions. This is a good opportunity to learn about SOGO KARATE as it will be making it's way into NYC as the newest combat sport. Thanks. Mark Negron had the sport approved in NYC. So now they are working to promote this as another ring sport. Same way they promote kickboxing, muay thai...etc. Very exciting to watch. Non stop action. Rules also allow more techniques while keeping the action fast paced and the sport safe.

Brian Wright is a very good fighter and his Takemichikaikan Karate ruleset and Sogo Karate ruleset are very similar, However, this video SHOULD NOT be tagged as Sogo Karate.

As you can see in this Takemichikaikan Karate Exhibition, there is striking on the ground. In Sogo Karate ruleset, there is NO STRIKING OF ANY KIND ON THE GROUND. Also, as part of NYSAC approval, protective gear including gloves must be worn. These are VERY important points for NYSAC approval.

Videos which show striking on the ground should not be uploaded using the name Sogo Karate because this is not in the Sogo ruleset, no matter how the 2 styles might otherwise be similiar. It jeopardizes the approval the sport currently has in place with the New York State Athletic Commission. We fought hard to get the Sogo Karate ruleset approved in New York, it would be a shame to put it at risk because of overzealous promoting or without a full understanding of the finer points of the NYSAC approval. It must be noted, MMA is not legal in New York State.

UZUMAKI, I meant no contraversy. I am just promoting a seminar. That video was made in dec. 2006 - PreSogo karate. Modifications were made to the rules to allow approval in NYC. Striking is NOT allowed on the ground, protective gear (headgear, gloves, shin/instep pads) must be worn for competition.

This seminar is a good opportunity to train under sogo karate rules.
