A very successful seminar indeed!

So when will be the next NYC seminar and who is going to host it?

Osu!

(And hopefully 3rd time's a charm! First two posts got me an admin page, so I've left it a few more hours before trying again.)

This was an excellent seminar, and I wish you could all have been there. Solid technical information; loads of practical practice of the same; linear progression from basics to combo's to partner work.

Sharing of the highest order, and such a positive vibe that I'm caught between still enjoying the experience and wishing we could do it again next week! (I'm hoping Miguel Sensei will include more about the seminar when he posts his pic selection!)

If our European members have as welcoming and entertaining time come the K2 in October, I know they will experience firsthand what I'm talking about.

A very special pair of Thank you!'s to Miguel Sensei and Sato Sensei! Being part of K4L is special, and they have embodied this same attitude in their Dojo and their seminars. Thank you for also promoting K4L at the seminar!

For those who are already kicking yourselves for not being there, I guess I'll be kind and not talk at length about the delicious Brazilian BBQ and wide range of libations.

Two final notes: Please try and attend one of these events. When you do, you'll know why we are hyped up as 7-year-olds on red Kool-Aid, before and after them; and EddieP, hope you recover soon!

Osu!

Dent-san,

Thank you for the kind words. It was great having you and everyone else there.

Unfortunately, I was at the dojo until almost 10pm that night doing a little clean-up. What I didn't mention was that I had just gotten off work that morning from a 24hr shift at the firehouse. I was exhausted when I got home on Saturday. I was at home yesterday and managed to get a few pics off to Sato sensei which he has posted. Then I was called into work yesterday afternoon for overtime. In fact, it is 7:00am EST and I am still at the firehouse. Worst part is, as soon as I leave at eight, I have to be at my other job at the college by 9:00 to teach til 5:30.

So the long of it is that I may not have a chance to put the pics up today either, but I will try my hardest.

I just wanted to thank everyone once again for making the event so wonderful. It was nice to be able to teach such a great group of people, and I hope that everyone walked away with a slightly different understanding of karate.

Hello Everyone,

First I would like to thank everyone for their patience.

This past weekends seminar was a dream come true for me. I believe that the hardest part of being independent of an organization is the lack of networking and large gatherings. But everyone's support for this seminar just goes to show that Karate is truly what is most important.

I definitely believe we should take pride in our individual dojo or organizations, but we should also be able to come together, no matter the kanji on the chest or the patch on the arm, and train in the true budo spirit of brotherhood / sisterhood.

My sincerest hope is that everyone learned something from the workshop. My intent was to teach a concept inherent in all karate--disrupt your opponents balance, and timing, and you stand a much greater chance of winning in a confrontation. The keys to this are footwork, dodging attacks, and taking the opponent's centerline. So while I taught certain techniques, they were only meant to illustrate those important concepts. Hopefully, students and instructors alike will be able to apply the principles (and not necessarily the techniques themselves) to their own karate.

That being said, I HAVE FINALLY SORTED THROUGH 600+ PICTURES AND HAVE UPLOADED CLOSE TO 150 PHOTOS OF THE SEMINAR!!!

to view the pics, go to: Gallery

Once again, many thanks!

Yours in Budo,
Miguel Rios

Osu, Shurenkan-san,

Thank you for all the great pictures.
I would like to say it again, it was great fun and I learned a lot of "sabaki" techniques at the event.
Thank you again. I look forward to seeing you at next event hosted by Raul Sensei. (or may be even earlier at your dojo)
Osu.

Will this series of seminars lead to new opportunities for inter-group tournaments and other forms of cooperation?

I sure hope so. It would be nice to have a truly "open" competition where participants from any style can compete and be treated fairly.

Osu,

I think making that happen in 2009 should be a goal to strive for!

Not giving anything away, but there are a number of interactions set for the next 12 months, including one project that should be quite exciting for the middle of next year.

Osu,

And if we could have different competition rules available, then there could be some crossover too.

And we now have access to more volunteers than before, so we could really make it something worthwhile to all participants!
