Jutland Open 2008 (Semi Contact) | Sept. 20 | Denmark
OSU!
Randers Karate Skole will be hosting the Open Jutlandish Championships in Semi-contact karate. Rules may differ slightly from those you know, so I will give a brief summary at the bottom of this post. The championship is for people of any level of skill, but is ideal for those who feel they are not yet ready for knock-down or those who just wish to get some experience. There are many weight-divisions as well as an A and B class (men only). The goal is to give the fighters as much experience as possible, against equal opponents. Where possible, the fighters will fight in pools, and is likely to get at least 2-3 fights. This is a friendly championship, where we focus on good karate, a friendly and respectful atmosphere and generally just great budo spirit. Fights will be fought on tatami.Host: Randers Karate Skole Time: September 20, 2008 - weigh-in starts at 11:30 am Venue: Elro Arena (Hal 3), Randers, Denmark Participation fee: 75 DKK (about 10 euros) Divisions: Men A (Min. 4th kyu): -60 kg, -65 kg, -70 kg, -75 kg, -80 kg and +80 kg)Registration: Sensei Frank MikkelsenRules: WCK-S A brief summary of the rules: All techniques to the body is allowed with full contact. Contact to the head is limited to circular kicks, and with moderate contact only. Grabbing, throwing and sweeping is allowed, however unnescesarry clinching is not. Contact below the belt is forbidden (save for sweeps). An effective punch or strike to the body is awarded ippon (1 point). An effective kick to the body is given nihon (2 pts), as will unbalancing the opponent followed by an effective technique. Kicks to the head will be awarded with sanbon (3 pts), as will a succesful throw followed by a controlled finishing technique (remember that contact to a downed opponent is forbidden). The fight will last for 3 minutes, whereafter the fighter with most points will be victorious. In case of hikiwake in the finals, there will be 1 minute encho-sen and hantei. Should the points reach a difference of 8, it will be considered win by KO. It will also be considered a KO if a fighter is not able to continue after a 10 second count, provided of course that the technique was legal. Penalties will be divided into category 1 and category 2 offenses, similar to WKF. Mouth guard, shins (covering both shin and instep) and groin protector are compulsory for all fighters. Female fighters must also wear breast protectors (cup type). All entrants must be at least 18 years of age. If you have any questions, please post it in this thread, or send me a PM. ![]() OSU! Low kicks are not allowed. You may use sweeps, but they must be at the bottom 1/3 of the shin. Furthermore, repeated sweeps without attempting to follow-up will be penalized.
Throws must be below hip level. For example, ura nage and maki komi nage is allowed, whereas shoulder throws seen in judo is not. Nor may you put any contact in the head or face with your hands while throwing. Fights will be fought on tatami.

A few updates. There are a few small changes from last year, and I have updated the top post accordingly. The major change is that contestants need to be 18 years of age, and that there is a new weight class for female competitors this year (-53 kg).
I have also uploaded a new (and prettier) poster, with updated info.
