Role models...who inspires you??
Hi all!

Is there any particular person that you are inspired by whether it be fighting or traditional stuff?
Do you find there is anyone you would like to be like or someone that motivates you to become more successful? Ive never been one to have a role model or an idol im just wondering if any of you do and do you think its good to have a role model?

I've never really had a role model either actually, but I think if you have somebody to inspire and motivate you positively then theres no harm in it at all. :]
I've had people who I'd like to fight like I suppose, and have tried adopting some of their traits and stuff, such as; Petra Markova and Miyuki Eguchi.

Yeah, Maria Lepina is like a little machine!
Although, so is Petra.
I'm around the same size as those fighters, so I suppose thats what I'm aiming for. :]
What weight do you fight at?

Ah I'm sure you'll do fine!
I'll have to have a look out for you. :]
I'm sure I've probably seen you fight before though, I'm a regular spectator at the tornaments. Awesome!
I'm still a cadet, so still have all that ahead of me, thankfully!
Fought knockdown in Wales v Eng though in October, good experience marking first cadet knockdown here! :]
I'm 5" so you probably get what I mean when I'd like to focus on their traits!
Good luck for then though.

How long have you been training then?
And yeah, I'm sure we'll bump into eachother at somepoint! I'm sure I've heard of you anyway, how have you done novice-wise?
And yeah, I'm 16, 17 in a couple of months. I've fought clicker, but knockdown has always been my main focus really. I started training when I was 14, nearly 15. And I've trained knockdown since 15 really, with some odd clicker tornaments. :]
And I'll get thinking some really cheesy lines!

Ahh, I have an idea who you are.
Are you Becky Woods buddy?
Won the KD in October?
If it is, I was very impressed. Awesome fighter! Didn't look like a novice! :]

Llantrisaint and Crystal Palace?
I think I've spelt Llantrisaint wrong... And being Welsh thats a bit of a shamer!
Ahh yeah I remember watching you in CP, awesome! :]
I was supposed to fight Becky in the Wales v Eng [Severn Challenge] but it fell through, so I ended up fighting Jo Bonnar.. I think thats her second name anyway.
My head pretty much went in that fight.. Ended up being more of a mental battle instead of physical, especially with it being my first and her being more experienced. Ended up fighting myself more. Felt pretty crappy about that one as it was only one round, so I didn't get into the flow of things!
Now, I've busted up my hand on one of the Sempai's at our dojo, so I've had to miss out on the Switz and Wales v Eng this year, even though I've been asked. Bummer huh?
But everyone tells me time is on my side and I guess thats true.
Congrats again!

True, it's not all doom and gloom. I think if we'd had a few more rounds in Llangollen I would've settled and probably would've given a far better account of myself, which is important to me. :]
On the other hand my forced rest period, has given me time for reflection and I'm very hungry to be back in the thick of things now lol.
Yeah, I was in the running to be picked and then KABOOM my hand goes, sad stuff lol! Good sensei to get me back now though.
And the fighting of Janine... God aii, I could see how that would be a bit of a bummer! Wouldn't even wanna imagine that one!
On the other hand, perhaps we shouldn't worry where their from, what colour their belt, or even how many stripes they have on it, everyone is beatable. The glory is the focus lol! And if you could beat someone like Janine, you could retire from KD there and then with a big grin on your face. lol

Lol! She came up to me after and asked if i was ok and that if i had carried on i would have beaten her! That was good enough to hear for me! She ended up winning it in the end that was at Crystal Palace in 1998. Funny enough i fought her last year in the Wales v England in clicker close fight but she caught me with a strike to the back IPPON was chasing it after that lol!

I shouldnt be downhearted about my fights. I enjoyed Llantrisant last year i really felt the fire in that one lol! Hope to fight in the England V Wales this year. I love fighting clicker its good foundations for KD!

Ah you cant get better than that then! I wouldn't mind hearing that off her!
I agree with clicker being the foundations for KD though definitly; speed, agility.. etc. Although it's never been where my heart is. I wanted to fight the clicker this year in Wales v Eng, but my hands just a bitch lol!
We've kinda gone off topic on this thread! haha
