Tattoos
Hi - I've been looking at the general thread about tattoos, and I wondered if any of the women have gone this path. Most of the men I have seen with a kanji tattoo have it over their left pectoral muscle, "close to the heart". Now for most of us, that would mean we couldn't show our tattoo without seriously distracting our male training mates.
![]() Do any of the women have tattoos..and where do you put them? |

Here's a fresh one on one of MVD's hardcore mean team! I'm guessing you don't get yourself a tatoo if you don't want people to see it so hopefully she won't mind me posting this link. Getting this done (in Tokyo) was her reward to herself for recently achieving shodan.

I think I'd become the laughingstock of my dojo if I ever got a Kyokushin tattoo... it's no secret that most Japanese aren't into tattoos in the first place, and my black belt bf has declared anyone with a Kyokushin tattoo to be "silly". But I think they're kinda cool.... |

I have two tattoos on the top of my arms. One is a scroll with a rose and my 1st sons name (and my ex husbands name
) on my right arm. The second one is a chinese symbol meaning 'good omen' with my 2nd sons name on my left arm. Need re-doing really im not too happy with them anymore, but hey i was a rebel lol!I would absolutely LOVE a kyokushin kanji tattoo, but i don't know where to put it! ![]() Ok guys answer me this... If a woman is to have the kanji where would be the best place?

I saw a girl on the subway yesterday with a huge tattoo on her shoulderblade...
she was wearing a dress, with a thin sweater...and you could see the tattoo through the back.... It was pretty cool...would of been beter if it was something other than a butterfly though!! vapor |

Although I can appreciate the artistic value of some tattoo's, as a rule I would be rather put off by a tattoo, kyokushin or not, on a potential partner. I sometimes like looking at certain tattoo's, but I would never get one done (the only exception I can think of to this is if I were to join a commando unit and everyone in the unit had the same tattoo, then I'd willingly get it done... but that's not likely to ever happen).
So single girls take note: for me, some are fun to look at because they're "exotic", but that would probably wear off quite quickly on a partner. |

I notice one thing in the kanji on that lady's back.
The connection between "shin" and "kai" is a bit different from what I have seen in various versions of the kanji. I am not an expert in shodo and this is just from my personal observation. OSU!

Perhaps on your ankle, or leg? My fiance has a four leaf clover to the right and just below her belly button. A few suggestions.

I believe the lower back tattoo is also known as a "tramp stamp"!
And why are they always butterflies?!I like *upper* back, just under the neck tattoos quite a lot. I have one there. It also hardly hurt at all. |

A good friend and fellow karateka has the kanji tattooed on her ankle.
If you can read it in training you know you have just been owned by her with a quick as lightning jodan mawashi. |

I like women un-inked.... its not really a gender issue but i just dont like them on women, it takes a bit of the femininity away. I do like the really big japanese ones, that cover like a part of the back and shoulder and upper arm, on women, with a lot of colours in them. But not the simple plain butterflies, or dolfin ones. I asked my girl not to take one when she brought one up. Told her if she really wanted a kyokushin kanji it would be ok, but i`d rather see her without one (i did make clear that its her decision in the end). I know its unfair because i already have a kanji one and am really happy with it.

ok, at the risk of posting in the girl section too much, i just HAVE to chime in here real quick. TATTOOS ARE HOT!!! damn near any tat on a chick is hot almost anywhere on her body.
i hate how the anti-tattoos-on-women guys are the most vocal guys about it. it makes me wonder how many women have decided against getting a great tattoo because of so many negative opinions from those annoying guys.... ladies please, dont listen to the opinions of others. dont even listen to mine despite me condoning the tattoo. just get it if you want it. you might end up in a relationship with an anti tattoo guy and he will just have to get over it. or you could end up with a guy like me and make that guy incredibly happy. i seriously cant be the only one. |

My Kanji is on my left arm just below the shoulder. I got it right after my Shodan grading in 1996.
I think that tats on men or women are either cool or tacky depending on the artwork, subject matter and personal meaning. It can go either way... |
