hmmm. that's weird. Maybe you did post? and it got lost? Could have sworn I saw something from those pink gloves...anyway, I invoked your authority without authority...but it all turned out OK in the end.

Hey.. just a thought. I was reading the thread on being on the pill, and training in this female section, and I remembered that one of the effects of the pill is to toughen up the uterus so that implantation cannot occur. Now.. the truth is that I've never been on the pill.. ever.. so perhaps my uterus is more spongy, and will bleed more easilly if struck directly with a hard side thrust kick.

Anyways.. I purchased a woman's groin protection that has a hard plastic shield inserted within it. It is used for women's soccer, tennis, and other such sports. Now, I wear this 100% of the time when I train to avoid future mini miscarriages. I don't even notice it's on as I train since it has cushion like material around it. It only costed me $25. Great investment for my peace of mind.

Glad to hear that it was nothing serious. I wonder if it would strenghten your inner wall with repeated blows to the same area or if it would just get worse?

LOL..that is SUCH a blokey suggestion . (with no offence to the offering bloke, or our dear Moderator Bloke)...just..what woman would ever suggest pummelling to prevent the bleeding!

Davidkyokushinstudent...that is one of the great things about this forum....angles that we would never think of ourselves. Thanks for taking the time to post it, but errrrmmm..I'll pass on that one.

The female karate-do practitioners, who train for jiyu kumite (free sparring) but so many of them are not aware of it... The impact of a forceful punch or kick in the abdomen instantly rises the abdominal pressure, leading to the rupture of the corpus luteum.

The corpus luteum, which means yellow body in Latin, is what is left of the follicle after a woman ovulates. During the follicular phase of a woman’s cycle, several follicles develop under the influence of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone). Each follicle contains an egg. In a typical cycle only one egg will become mature enough for ovulation. When a woman ovulates the egg will burst from the follicle. Then what is left of the follicle will become the corpus luteum. The luteal phase, named after the corpus luteum, is the second half of a woman’s menstrual cycle. The luteal phase begins after ovulation and continues until menstruation occurs.

What does the corpus luteum do?
The corpus luteum produces progesterone. Progesterone makes the lining of the uterus thick for implantation and is necessary to sustain a healthy pregnancy. The corpus luteum produces progesterone until the placenta begins to take over progesterone production around ten weeks gestation.

How long does the corpus luteum survive?
After a woman ovulates, the corpus luteum only lasts for about 12-14 days unless it begins receiving HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) from a developing embryo. If the egg is not fertilized, the corpus luteum dies and progesterone production stops. When progesterone levels drop, the uterus lining stops thickening and is consequently shed during menstruation.

If the egg is fertilized, the corpus luteum will begin receiving HCG from the embryo. HCG tells the corpus luteum to keep producing progesterone. The corpus luteum lasts for about ten weeks after ovulation. After ten weeks the placenta takes over progesterone production through the end of pregnancy.

What is corpus luteum deficiency?
Corpus luteum deficiency, also known as corpus luteum defect, means that the corpus luteum does not produce enough progesterone to allow a pregnancy to develop. Without sufficient progesterone levels, the lining of the uterus will begin to shed. If a woman is pregnant and has low progesterone levels this may result in miscarriage.

Guys, as we now know S7 is ok (I was getting mighty concered at about half way through the thread, all sounds very scary and strange to a mere blokey) I'd just like to say how I appreciate the candid openness of the forum to discuss such topics as you would very rarely be able to find such a group of like minded individuals with such a wealth of knowledge, in the dojo there are usually to many people to over hear and your mates who don't do karate normally think its all karate's fault. My wife has a similar issue as yourself S7 but there are other considerations at the moment, and yes she's back and forth to the docs, it's just great for me to have some information to help advise her.

Top Forum...

Now, about my Prostrate.....Kiddin'

It's not the usual kind of thicker menstrual blood, but more like normal blood. There is no pain, nor cramps.. just bleeding. It started with light bleeding, and is now advanced into moderate after a day. I'm going to apply ice packs on myself, and rest today in an attempt to halt this.

Is this normal for us ladies? Has this happened to anyone else?
Osu,

It is not normal. Hope you have already been to the doctor's to check it. I've been doing karate for 17 years and it has never happened to me!!!
Let us know what happened and if everyhing is ok now.

Osu

Osu!

This thread is a fine example of the need for us to have access to seniors of both genders. I have learned a lot, not least that this list is far more than just a social resource.

Supergroup7, thank you for your question, and to all for the frank discussion.

Osu!
