History of women in Kyokushin
Calling out for information!
Would anyone know who the very first woman Kyokushin student was, and when she started training? Did she study under Sosai Oyama in Japan? |

I found announced on the internet the first Scottish Kyokushin woman:
"Sensei Belle Marlborough started training in 1973 at the Perth Karate Club in the Caledonian road school where she progressed to the rank of 1st Dan in Shotokan, Belle left Karate for a while in 1980 to teach aerobics, weights, and Combat aerobics (Which she still teaches), Returning to Karate in 1990 progressed again to the rank of 1st Dan in Kyokushin Karate. The first Scottish Woman to fight Knockdown, the first to become an International Judge and grading official, and again the first Woman in the Kyokushin GB ( Scotland, England, Wales ) to reach the rank of 3rd Dan This must be an insparation to any Woman joining Karate. " Kyokushin Karate Scotland: Instructors First American Woman Kyokushin (?) "Some 44 years ago a young woman named (Sensei) Alice Eguchi walked through the doors of San Francisco's first School of Oyama dojo and joined the very first karate class being instructed there." The classes were being taught by Sensei Don Buck near the year 1964. She is now a 4th Dan. Joomla - Alice Eguchi And as another First for women: Naomi Ali née Woods (4th July, 2004) This is the first woman to ever perform the 100-man kumite. Not only that, she was also the first woman to do the 50-man kumite! Australian Kyokushin - 100 Man Kumite |

According to Kyokushin4life forum
The first woman uchi deshi was Elena Vorobyeva From what I can understand from the Russian webpage dedicated to her, she became Uchi Deshi in 1993, and finished in the year 2000. |

I believe that this list might not contain Japanese women mostly due to the fact that it would be written in Japanese on the internet. Since I cannot read, or speak Japanese, I have no access to it.
I can only read English webpages. |

As I heard one of the first women allowed practicing with the man at kyokushin honbu dojo where Sensei Maria "Kickan" Cook from Sweden. She was married to Shihan Dave Cook (The author of Power karate part 1 and 2) I dont know if this is true and I dont know what year that was, possible late 70's.

Osu! Mickeberg,
Welcome to the Forum. May I suggest that you go to the Introductions section, and post some information on yourself so that we may all welcome you properly. Osu! Quote:
