Thanks Niceguy - Ill have a look and see if I can come up with any pointers but I know the dojos that Lucy and DKKC come from and they both have many great fighters from which to gather feedback so Im not sure what I can add to that.

I have now reviewed yours Lucy, but not in full as my connection is very slow tonight. As Dent has noted, your front kicks were penetrating well. I thought your punches were connecting welll too, and you just kept at it even when she was forcing you back. ![]() The things I am observing that were barriers for you in this fight were: Footwork - my opinion is that with some more sophisticated footwork, you would have eaten this opponent for dinner. She was a very linear fighter, and you sort of obliged by responding in a linear way - by moving forwards or backwards, which kept you in her comfort zone. Some circling and sabaki-type moves would have changed the tempo and let you get into rhythm without being under the constant barrage of her punches. Power of kicks. You front kicks looked strong, but the mawashis I saw connecting with body and thigh did not seem to have follow through in them, (ie, your hip wasn't coming through) and so they werent at this point slowing her down. Your kicks reminded me of mine when I was trying to change over from non-contact to full-contact. The follow through is much harder to achieve in the mawashis than in the mae geris. The third thing I would say is watch your head cover. Your hands were very low. All the good technique in the world won't help if you are KOd in the 1st minute. Good fight tho! Will come back to it when my connection recovers.

DKKC - I just started having a look, but realised I don't know which fighter is you! I could work out Lucy's because her photo is on the K4L front page. if you can clarify that for me, I'll be happy to have a look and give you my views.

Well - it took me a while, but I finally got back to look at your fights DKKC.
firstly -well done on keeping up the tempo through extension. Been there. So hard to keep the intensity up, so salute to you. Once you got warmed up your flexibility and speed in the jodan kicks were very, very good. You have an impressive arsenal waiting to be fully developed. Some things that I think could make it easier for you to win, without having to go through the pain of extension are: Early in the fight, your bottom foot was not grounded, even with low kicks. This reduced the power in the kicks, and let you down. You were almost jumping with gedan kicking, and it robbed you. Aim to bring the hip through and down with those gedan kicks. Lift the knee high, and drop the shin down vertically onto their thigh. You will even connect if they leg-check. Secondly - there was an awful lot of single techniqe or just 2 techniques, and the fight kept breaking as you each withdrew and looked for an opportunity to deliver another tecnhique. This is understandable once you have maxed out and are exhausted, but this was happening pretty much from the beginning, so I think it is a technque thing, perhaps coming from non-contact?? I think that if you had kept them flowing in combinations, she would not have known what to do. It LOOKED like there was an agreement that each engagement would last no more than 3 or 4 seconds. the thing to do to avoid this is to practice delivering combinations as you move in and also as you move out. The delivery does not stop until you are out of effective range. Finally, as for Lucy, I'd suggest you explore the use of circular footwork. The exchanges were very in and out from each of you. Combinations, coupled with angles and circles in your footwork will make a huge difference. You have great technique - it just all needs to be hung together in a lethal package. Oh - and hands...practice covering your head at all times. You are dropping your hands when you do kicks, especially your spinning back kicks (whcih are fab, but will be useless if you are unconscious). I was taught to touch the thumb of my non-kicking side to my forehead with every single kick every time. Not just in kumite, but in basics, ido-kihon bag work and kumite. Only exception is kata. Well done! ![]()

Seienchin,
Thank you very much for your review - worth waiting for! On your second point - my oponent and I have fought each other many times - we also meet in training very often and we know each other's fighting style pretty well (I dare say). I reckon that shows in the way we fight against each other as we both pretty much know what the other one knows about us (do I make sense?). But yes - there's need for a change in attitude (and more) on my part. Again, thank you very much for taking the time to do this - I find it very useful! ![]()
