Kyokushin and giving birth
osu ladies, how did you deal with the pain and all the hard things you had to go through when giving birth? Did training kyokushin help you more to concentrate and deal with the pain you had to go through?
What was in your mind? osu

Well!
The first time what was going through my mind was if men did this they would have figured out how to make it less painful a long time ago! I thought I had a pretty good tolerance to pain because of Kyokushin but it's so different it's not really comparable. There were moments when I felt detached (from the pain) and that may have come from Kyokushin. One thing I found was my Kyokushin sense of humour and 'desensitivity' did me a disservice. I told the first midwife the baby was coming & she didn't believe me because she'd seen hundreds of births and "I didn't have the right look in my eyes" *panic?*. Between contractions I could still have a laugh. She told me I had at least 12 hours to go & sent me home for the most horrendous 2 hours (because I thought I had 12 hours of it to go!). Finally decided she was WRONG & rushed to the hospital in the nick of time. Even for your first be confident you will know when it's time & be prepared to communicate that... clearly! I think it's helpful to try for a sense of calm even if only between contractions & try to enjoy the process & imagine the baby a lot, what it's going through (it's not all about you any more) & how close you are to holding it! And pack food for after!! |

I wasn't training in Martial Arts when I decided to have my children. I do believe that the knowledge that I have today about proper breathing, body conditioning, posture, self-control, patience, assertiveness, and focus would have helped me immensely. I think that the kid would have shot out of me like a cannon, and would have flown into the doctor's arms.
I can assure you that I would have been more alert to my environment, and I would have made myself comfortable instead of trying to meet the expectations of the various nurses that were in charge of me. |

How did I deal with the pain of childbirth? Well, it's just like anything else, yet it's like nothing else. I dealt with it.
I didn't start training until after giving birth. My sense is that your training will help you get through the pain and have patience and persistance. On the inhale and exhale this can be summed up with a spirited OSU! |

To be honest i don't think kyokushin played any part in helping me during giving birth! All i thought about was food and how hungry i was and everyone found that funny, shouting at my mother and asking my husband how could he do this to me!

Lucy, I'm so pleased I wasn't the only mother thinking about food! I was thinking more about getting some jam on toast after than getting my hands on the baby! |
