I saw vids of him on the on some of the older Sabaki challenges. Fast and strong! Very good sweeping techniques too!!

Yes, Mike is a great fighter and a very humble person. he hurt his hand permanently a few years ago, and can barely use it, so his fighting days are up, I think. Even so, the last time I was at Honbu in 2005 I trained with him under Kancho, and really enjoyed the time I spent with him.

Well, I heard through the grapevine that he can still barely move the hand after several extensive surgeries. He still trains, but can't use that hand for punching or grabbing. I don't know if he can make a fist with it any more. When I saw him in '05 he had finished with his 3rd surgery and his hand looked like Dr. Frankenstein had cobbled it together, what with all the swelling, stitching and pins sticking out of it.
Of course, this is 3 years later, so things may have changed. The last word I received was from last summer. |

![]() Yes my Sensei told me of Mike's unfortunate hand condition. I hope he can get it back to 100% someday. ![]()

yes, he was riding his bicycle and either fell off or was knocked off (I can't remember) and a hit and run driver ran over his hand. His hand literally popped like a grape is what he told me. So sad.
