Hey, I play trumpet so my teeth and mouth is really important for me, i`ll ask me dentist how much it will cost for me to get a custom one, but my teeth are still moving so I should get a new one once a year or so. Untill I stop growing. I have a cheap mouthguard now, better then nothing. You put it in hot water and it becomes soft after a while, then u bite into it just like when you are wearing it and it forms to your mouth. It doesnt fall out when you open your mouth.
The fitting is quite good, when its still soft you can suck it vacuum so that it forms nicely over your teeth. Last edited by Willem; 03-17-2008 at 02:48 PM. |

From memory your supposed to try to suck the saliva out of the mouth guard as soon as you put it in.

I don't like mouth guards for the very reason you mentioned. I think it's quite rare to lose some teeth in a kyokushin fight.

I wear my mouthguard for all my sparring. No point in spending real cash at the dentist, when for a fraction of the price, and only a little discomfort, I can be fairly well protected. Osu!

In order to get used to it, from time to time we have to wear our mouth guards throughout training, (Kihon and all) for that very reason

Dent that doesn't sound unlike a method used for training in Russia, where after a long run they force themselves to breathe through a peice of hose. I think that was mentioned on this site somewhere.

![]() It's just tough to breathe, and forces you to overcome the CO2 return. We did it both with bagwork and with sparring. I didn't like it, but it did work... Osu!

uhm...hello....have you introduced yourself yet?
And have you read the threads that I linked you to? There is already quite a bit of information in the longer thread (mouthguards, not mouthpiece) from members who have done the boil-your-own method. I'm going to move this thread into that one, so that it is all consolidated together.

A custom fit mouthguard from a dentist is about $75 (here in Canada) and I greatly reccomend them.
Somtimes the injury is not to the teeth but from them. One of my fighters this year fought without a guard (accidentally left it behind and it was a custom fit jobby). She took a kick to the face and one of her teeth went right through her lip fully piercing it. She was ahead until then, but that changed the momentum of the fight. She didn't show pain or flinch (I am amazed, I would have hit the ground from it) so no wazari called, but a mouthguard would have prevented this. |
