i was told about this product in relation to bruised shins... how would this help that sort of scenario out? I'm not all that familiar with the whole 'cream' scene and its physiological uses. I thought it basically warmed up the tense muscle which allowed for temporary relief? If this is the case, how would it be of use for a bruised bone (as opposed to a muscle).

Osu!
Never used Arnica, but my sister recommended it to me. Being the normal little brother, I don't listen. I have normally two products, Biofreeze or Air-Salonpas. I've never had a problem with either of them until two days ago. I used Air-Salonpas and had a superficial burn on the whole area I sprayed! I won't be using that again! That's what I get for not listening to big sis! Osu! Martin

This is interesting, Arnica Gel, is something my wife uses, something to do with beauty therapy. I usually use Woodlock (chinese ointment), Tiger Balm, Deep Heat, Thai Oil or an indian Oil (that I can't remember the name of), depending on the pain. I found some interesting Facts with thanks to Wikipedia
Predominately I use the Woodlock. Wood Lock is a Chinese medicated liniment/ointment (external analgesic) from Hong Kong. Its intended purpose is to relieve muscle aches and pains. It is highly popular in Hong Kong and sold in North America at Chinese herbalist stores. Wood Lock has been made by the China Medicine Laboratory and Wood Lock Medicine Company Limited since 1968. The liniment is based on the formula of the traditional White Flower Oil recipe, in which the creator, Wong To Yick, added several Chinese herbs including Dong Quai. In this sense, it can be considered of containing herbal extracts but it was never labelled. but I have a freind getting me some Shaolin 'Dit Dat Yow' Dit da jow is the number one remedy for bruises, contusions, sprains, and factures. Most bruises are usually shrugged off by athletes and martial artists as minor injuries that will heal themselves. Over the centuries, Kung Fu practitioners noticed that large bruises or repeated bruising on one area sometimes created accumulations of stagnant qi and blood that could cause serious health problems years later. Trauma liniment was developed to disperse these accumulations and treat sports injuries, thereby prolonging the soldier/warrior/athlete's career and health. Today Dit Da Jow can be bought on internet shops and through martial arts catalogs or it can be directly obtained from a Chinese apothecary or master. Dit Da Jow is primarily used by martial artists to aid the healing of Iron palm training. Is Arnica treatment this good, wow. Here's the wikipedia excert regards its Uses and toxicity Arnica montana has long been used medicinally. It contains the toxin helenalin, which can be poisonous if large amounts of the plant are eaten, and contact with the plant can also cause skin irritation. The roots contain derivatives of thymol, which are used as fungicides and preservatives and may have some anti-inflammatory effect. Arnica is currently used in liniment and ointment preparations used for strains, sprains, and bruises. Commercial arnica preparations are frequently used by professional athletes. The thymol derivatives concentrated in the plants roots have been clinically shown to be effective vasodilators of subcutaneous blood capillaries. Arnica preparations used topically have been demonstrated to act as a anti-inflammatory and assist normal healing processes by facilitating transport of blood and fluid accumulations through a dilating action of subcutaneous blood capillaries. If ingested internally, the toxin helenalin produces severe gastroenteritis, and internal bleeding of the digestive tract if enough material is ingested.

Osu!
I don't like the Tiger Balm stuff. It burns the skin over time, and the skin gets flaky. Not cool. There are a lot better products out there. Osu!

From the side of the tiny container: "Stop use and ask doctor if: Severe skin irritation occurs" Maybe its an allergy to that stuff? I've never had a problem with it, but I've never used any other rub. Usually I use Tiger balm for a quick fix, for long term I go with the standard RICE formula: Rest, ice, compression, elevation.

Thanks, Chen3141. It's the only one to do that, so I think that the ingredients may not be the best quality. I was having a hard time finding this Arnica cream in the common US drugstore, but the net has come to my aid. It's off the the homeopathic place today! ![]() Osu!

Before Kyokushin I used to train in White Craine Kung Fu. I lived in Montreal and my Sifu moved to Toronto about a year into my training. I stopped soon afterwards and then about 1 year later took up Kyokushinkai and never stopped since (20 years later). About 4 years ago, I walk into a MA wholesale place in Toronto that's also a Kung Fu school and surprise surprise it's my old Sifu.
When we trained with him, he used to make his own Dit Da Jow. After each class, we would "Iron" out our bruises. Put some of the Dit Da Jow on each bruise and run our knucles through it to smoothe it out. Hurt like hell doing it, but the bruise would be gone the next day or day after. In walking through his Toronto (Mississauga) store, hidden under a counter I noticed something familiar, little bottles of red liquid with Chinese writing. I asked him if it was what I thought it was, and he said yes. I swear by it and it works, but now I don't iron out the bruises any more, I'm too old and cranky so they take a little longer to heal (or that could be age). FutureProdegy, he is located on the south side of Dixie accross from the MacDonalds 2 blocks south of the 401 in Mississauga, AllMasters Kung Fu. Go get yourself some. OSU |
