StarKodama - can't help with that, but I suspect that if you go to a drugstore in Tokyo, and explain that you want a nappy cleaning product, they'll have something like it.
Cheers

I was about to ask if it is any good as a stain remover when I came across these reviews: will let you know how I get on removing the 15 year old green belt mark off my gi!

Quotes from some mumsy web site:

I have a two year old daughter and her clothes are always stained, usually I can remove the stains with Persil Non-Bio but some stains are more stubborn than others, the worse being chocolate and especially McDonalds chocolate milkshake. Well I've tried everything to remove this stain, Shout, Vanish, Ace, Stain Devil and even leaving clothes in the sun to bleach naturally and all to no avail. The other day I was reading an article on terry nappies and it suggested the use of Napisan so I decided that if it could remove nappy stains maybe it would remove chocolate milkshake and guess what.....it does !!!!!

Napisan is a germicidal stain remover which works by pumping oxygen into the stain to remove it. It also contains brightening agents and is non biological. The great thing about this product is that it can be used on colours as well as whites and it is cheap £2.50 for a small box and all you need to do is add two scoops to your normal detergent. If the stain is harder to shift you can you can use it to soak the clothes.

Napisan can be found in Tesco's near the baby wipes and it's well worth a try.

Second quote:

For anyone who wants to keep their whites white without using bleach I would strongly recommend Nappy Cleanse, available from Boots and other brand names such as Napisan.

I found this product when I was washing my daughters white baby grows etc when she was little.

It costs around £1.50 for a box that lasts ages. You put a tablespoon or so into your white wash, please check the individual manufacturers instructions, with the powder and hay presto amazing whites.

There is no bleach in it and it is a great product for all sorts of whites, my husbands shirts and sports socks have never been as bright.

It also has a germ killing agent in it so nappies, towels, kitchen cloths etc also come out with you knowing that they are truly clean.

For anyone with children, babies or people who play dirty sports in the house this is a must.

Well, I don't even have kids, so 'that isle' is completely new to me!

It is great at stains/dirt - I learned about it from a mother in my first dojo, who used to wash the dojo floor-cleaning cloths in it. She would be most pleased to hear that her message has now reached a worldwide audience!

Osu!

And falling into the category of odd things with which to clean your Dogi...

Carpet cleaner. After a weekend of supposed mountain training where I spent as much time in grass, dirt, muck and stagnant lake, my Dogi looked and smelled just awful. I watched as others washed theirs once, twice, thrice with less than desirable results. I found some carpet cleaner, and ShaZammm! it looked better than it had in two years.

I don't think it's an ideal every day type cleaner, but for really tough stains and a bleach free alternative, I was pretty happy.

(On reflection, never did see any in Japan though...)

Osu!

Interesting, Dent. Just how did you use it, exactly? And in what amounts?

Osu!

(Fascinating that the guys are interested. I'm betting the gals reading this are thinking, "Men! Can't live with them, and can't leave them all a cave somewhere." )

I used it bachelor style. Water in the washer, one gloop of carpet cleaner (A gloop being the standard bachelor measure for almost anything, although three or four gloops of peach brandy may kill you. ) and throw in the Dogi.

Nothing in the least subtle about it, but effective.

Osu!

I like the strict scientific approach here - you´ve obviously been involved testing cleaning products in "on the street" live demos...

You are most welcome. One day, I hope to let my former student know that her Mummy-wisdom has infected (or dis-infected) the world's gis...

that would be nice to do, because she was training in the days when it was really uncommon for women with children to do so, and she was almost apologetic for the fact that she had this kind of experience to share. how times change.

If it's really bacteria making all the smell, can't you use alcohol to kill the critters? Maybe a cheap store brand vodka that comes in a plastic bottle with a handle...mmm delicious!

Do you pour it on the Gi, or down your throat? (The Gi may still smell, but you don't dare? )

Quite right, "care", but I've been testing this new vodka laundry advice. Very effective!
