Leg Stretcher Machines?
Hey all...
I got a question. What do you all think about the Leg Stretcher Machines? Good? Bad? worth the money? I do stretches, but because of some injuries, i can't seem to push myself fully when i'm trying to stretch, and i think i need a little bit of help. if i can strap myself in one of those things and just crank that wheel and lock it while watching TV...that might help me. So...Stretching Machines....OSU! or NO OSU! lol. Thanks.... ![]() ![]() |

I have used this machine and i think its good like you said you can use it while you watch tv! But you have to be very careful as you can easily hurt yourself with these things if you go too far! You have to make sure you don't push yourself more than comfortable and SLOWLY over a numbers of weeks i'd say increase the stretch. If you sit there in pain or too much too soon it can be very bad. You have to be sensible and patient.

Im not sure how much they cost, so i can't really comment on that. Im saying, build it up gradually, so you don't hurt yourself and the muscles will stretch better, if you want lasting results. Every time you go on it go a little bit further sure, but don't go mad. It might not take weeks to attain what you want to achieve. Im just saying slow and steady to get the best result. You'll see what i mean if you go on one and crank it up too much

I know they used to be kind of expensive but I think they dropped down in price. I had one for a while that I received from an old student but ended up giving it to my best friend when I moved. I had a proforce model, it worked very well and I would use it while watching tv or playing video games

Osu!
Since reading up on PNF stretching, I'm less of a fan of static stretching. I'd rather aim for strength with flexibility through the range of motion. That said, I've never been particularly flexible. I think that each person's body is so very different that there's no one-size-fits-all approach, and the stretching machines may work well for you. My take? See if you can take one for a test drive. Maybe someone in your Dojo has one already? Osu! |

I wish there was a place where i can test drive it...but i can't find any...or better yet, i don't think i've looked that hard...lol. Just not enough time to go searching for it.
Although it has come down in price like PowerofOne said. I'm thinking about getting this model... HD-2000 Thanks all for your input...if you have more, i'm all ears... ![]() ![]() |

Now I know I'm old. That think looks more like a Benz than a leg stretcher. Bet it makes espresso too! ![]() Osu! |

I've only heard praise for it. You can push yourself more and for longer periods of time, since you have total control. I usually stretch untill it hurts, loose it up just a tiny bit, then stretch again. And slowly loosen up when you've had enough.

I have used one of these, but to be honest, now I just use plank of wood.
Put the plank on its edge, and hold the upper edge in your hands, so that hte plank is resting at 90 degrees to the floor. Put your feet at wide stretch (like the position on the stretch rack), feet resting on the plank. Then pull the plank in towards you. Lean forward over the plank... You can add some pnf by resisting the inwards pull of the plank...l My plank was free from a building site. Gotta be cheaper than a hurley stretchrack.

Sounds like a strain to keep pulling the plank towards you, seienchin. With the stretching machine, you can, as I said before, push yourself further than normally, and when you reach max position, you can rest your muscles (as you should) and focus on your breathing instead. But if it works for you... *shrugs*

Osu! Kansetsu,
That is a HUGE, FUZZY rabbit. (All caps seem somehow appropriate.) Do you just poke the carrot in its general direction to find the mouth? ![]() Osu! |

Osu! Seienchin,
To clarify, are the soles of your feet against the flat of the board, or are your heels on the upper edge? Osu! |

I'm thinking that she is using the flat of the board as a platform. Meaning your back is against the wall, your legs are spread open, you hold the plank vertically, and just pull so that the flat of the plank will slowly open your legs. (i might be wrong...lol).

Osu!
If that's the method, I'm going to have to get much stronger arms. My legs are sufficiently stiff that even with full body weight, I need help getting lower. I think some folk are naturally more flexible than others. I'm sure that those of us who are slow, fat, weak and inflexible have some advantages. I'll keep searching. ![]() Osu! |
