Important Information RE:Sizing and Purchasing of ISAMI Dogis
Recently I decided to purchase an ISAMI K-400 Dogi in Size 7 180cm through an internet supplier. My existing Australian made Size 6 dogi being slightly too small I naturally opted for the next size up. This was also confirmed by a height measurement of 180cm.
Upon arrival of the dogi I was natually very excited and tried it straight on only to find it was massively oversized! no problem I thought, I'll give it a warm wash and stick it straight in the drier for a few hours to shrink it. Whilst this did make a considerable difference, I was still swimming in the thing...Still without a quality heavyweight dogi I did a quick search on the internet and came accross Choke Sports Online Shop who were very helpful with sizing, assisting with the Kyokushin Kanji embroidery and even name embroidery! They also supplied my with several images which I would like to share (I notice a few of these have now been uploaded to their website) so you can cross check sizes with your existing dogi and hopefully avoid making the same mistake I have. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I actually ended up buying a Size 5 - two whole sizes down from what I had originally thought would be the right size for me! I hope this information helps! Osu! Antsan,
Maybe you now need to hit those weights and fill the gi - if M. wonīt come to the mountain... ![]() |

Haha, you're probably correct, however I offered the dogi to my sensei, and it was even too big for him, he's around the 100kg+ mark, and slightly shorter than me. Not sure if it's just me, who was unlucky with the sizing, but I thought i'd offer the information anyway ![]() |

Osu! Antsan,
Thanks for the info. It's always hard to order without having the product in hand. Hopefully that will help out some of us in our search for Dogi. Osu!

I was at Isami last week and you are absolutely correct. Their sizing seems to have changed (or maybe I'm just getting smaller.) LOL!!! I always wore a Size 6 K400 top and a size 5 bottom. As you did, I always put them in a hot wash and a hot dryer and they would shrink to the perfect size. Not anymore. They are still a little too big.
But here's the real funny part...at the Tokyo Shop in Shinjuku, they actually have demo tops that you can try on. But I think the demo tops are still the old cuts; they fit perfectly. I tried to get them to sell me the demo, but had no luck. On another note, while I still think Isami's gis are the best, a few years ago, chonmage martin (a member of K4L) while stationed in Okinawa, brought me back two gis from Lotus Club--one white, and one Ivory. They were both size 5 and they were some of the best fitting gi I have ever had. They felt great. They cut was fantastic because while it fit in the chest and shoulders (with extra room for comfort), it didn't hang down to my knees. The tops and the bottoms also had slightly different weights just like the Isami gi. Best part, the price. The only problem is that they don't ship outside Japan, and I can't find any shops in Tokyo. But rest assured next time I go to Osaka, I will definitely pick up a few. Miguel Rios

I have one ISAMI dogi size 6 and one size 5. I am 168cm and the size 5 is a better fit than the size 6. They both shrinked alot.

Quick (overdue) update,
As explained in the ISAMI tracksuit thread I ended up with a size 4L jacket and size 5 pants which fit perfectly (Model K-500). Osu!

I ordered a K-500 last thursday (17/07/2008) - am not sure how long it will take to get here? I'm guessing because it has the kyokushin embroidery it will take quite a while? I didn't end up getting my name embroidered as only the shodans and above seem to have that in our dojo, I mainly just want a dogi that fits well. Can't wait! What was your experience with shipping times? I read on the CS site that there's an additional 5-10 days for items with embroidery? on top of the initial 3-5 days processing and 5-8 days shipping? ![]() |

They should email you when your gi is sent out from ISAMI for me I think it was 2 weeks from ordering before I received it. EMS is great once its on its way it should be at your door within 2 days
