I'm 7th kyu, so low enough :P
I guess ill just have to see if a punching bag will be accessible. I aim to do a 1000 punches/kicks per day thing. One day i do them as hard as i can, next day as fast as i can, and the one after as technically perfect as i can. Dunno if anyone would let me hog the bag for that long at the gym or dojo :P What are ido geiko? |

Ha ha ha. Love it! 1000 kicks a day is classic stuff. Maybe you could do less kicks but make them more difficult? Condensing training is great because there's so much to achieve and we all have limited time! Also doing high reps is okay but may not be so good for your strength & size (& if you're a tri-athlete this may be an issue).
One day you could do your kicks with resistance bands attached to a wall stud. You don't even need a bag. Next day you could to 1000 of these (ha ha... or as many as you can) Next day you could work speed but without contact or kick a friend and let them kick you back (good for conditioning) or you could... rest ![]() |

I'm starting to drop the triathlon thing. Training plus 6 hours a day is becoming impossible, and for triathlon alone. Forget it. Kyokushin all the way. I'll just use the swim bike run as supplimental training. I'm sorry for making this thread, in the end i didn't need to. I spoke to my Shihan today, who happens to live next door + very close family friend...has been for decades and he said its best if i stay home. The best option would be to get a car and drive the 25km to university. So i guess ill be buying a stand and putting it in the garage. Thanks alot for everything. Osu! |

Does your Shihan have a bag available at his place? You might offer to clean up his garage if there is a bag you can use there. (From a formerly broke college student, who is now a broke adult. )Osu!

It's ok though. Problem pretty much solved. However one of the reasons im staying is because if i left, my grandmother would be alone. That's more or less the main reason. However i am less than the model teenager (messy rooms :P ) and we ll have to see if she lets me stay. Oh jeez :P |

This thread motivated me to hang my body bag tonight. I used an encased cable, over the central beam in the basement, closed with a heavy duty steel ring. That was a very heavy puppy, and it took some effort, but now the basement is looking like a great venue for some striking. I have the body bag, heavy bag and the uppercut bag all in place. I'm still looking for a reasonable shin bag, the last one having died a noble death. Tomorrow, or Tuesday, should see the rest of the basement squared away, and you K4L members are welcome to visit. ![]() Osu!

Hi,
I have both hung bags in appartments, at my dojo and in houses without any issues using a heavy bag ceiling attachment and a heavy duty spring. Both of these are usually sold by Martial arts equipment suppliers for about $40 each. The Ceiling mount comes with two 3 1/2 inch screws that go into a ceiling joist. It has a swiveling u with a bolt through it that the spring attaches to and the mounting plate for the screws into the joist with a bolt holding the two pieces together that is welded into place. Screw the bag mount into the ceiling joist. Attach the spring to the "u" mount, and then hook the bag's chains into the bottom of the spring. The spring will take up most of the bags movements eliminating the transfer of vibrations into the ceiling joist. We have 2 6' bags attached to our dojo ceiling this way, and there is a tennant appartment just above. OSU. |
