Its funny how it differs isn't it? My sempai said we are allowed to roll up the sleeves (which I do) as long as they still cover approx 1/3 of the forearm, but we are not under any circumstances allowed to cut the gi, sewing is fine, but definitely no cutting hems etc to sew up (it has to be folded up and sewn).

I never heard of that before intwominds - I always get mine cut and sewn and there is no problem. One reason for not rolling or folding the sleeves is that digits can get caught in the fold and injured.
