It may be a far cheaper option just to have the Dogi tailored. A few pounds, and it's done to your specifications.

Just may want to make sure with your sensei if this will be an issue or not...

Sure wouldn't want you to go to the trouble of either acquiring a new one, or altering an existing one, and not being able to wear it!

That's right, Vapor, I hadn't thought of that.

How short are you looking at getting? I use the ISAMI K500 gi, and the sleeves are only a few inches past the elbow

In kumite, your gi must cover at least 1/3 of your forearm, and not extend over your wrist. I think.

This differs per organisation... some allow short sleeves, others allow all sort of length`s as long as the sleeve isnt rolled up...

I usually roll the sleeves up about 3 folds. On of the sempais has a dogi with the sleeves totally taken off. A bit to "Cobra Kai" in my taste...

I know that at last year's ALL AMERICA tourney in New York (IKO1), Matsui Kancho stopped the tourney and made everyone roll down their sleeves...

Yup - yuo have to roll down your sleeves here as well - ther are seen as hangerous as the opponent's fingers or toes can get cought in the folds.

Another one for the taylored gi thread - I cut the sleeves of my gi to come half way down my forearm - then done a half and inch (1 cm really) double hem and sewn it up - it's dead easy to do - just make sure you cut the sleeve an inch or 2 longer than you want the final result to be to allow for a decent hem.

Anyone have tailored short sleeves, Vapor? If so, was there any issue with their sleeve length?

I didn't pay THAT close of attention..and it was a year ago already...

I don't recall that any issue was given about the possible shorter sleeve, but when the stop was made, I think it was even in the middle of a fight...

We can double check this year!

As Uber-Mod, I just thought you'd go back in time and see the moment again?

Yes, we'll be in place to find out the answer to it from the front row. Am I right in thinking that the tickets are a little cheaper than the World Tournament?

Don't know what this year's prices are...but, if I take a look at the post card from last years tourney, that is conveniently located inside my kyokushin shrine in my office it says...

Open Seating $25 ($30 at the door)
VIP Reserved $55 ($65 at the door)

I picked my tickets up at the dojo (for the lower price) the week before the tourney...

Thanks for the update, Vapor. That's a lot cheaper than the official price in Japan, although there I did get my seats for free.

Well, my current struggle is to get to the Dojo. Who would have thought it would be this much of a mission? Still, I have a few weeks left.

I sat in great seats at the All Japan tourney in 2006, thanks to my Shihan!

If necessary, I can always pick up tickets for you...if getting into the city is an issue...

Thanks, Vapor! I do need to get there though. If I don't get into a real Dojo fairly soon, I'm going to be an unhappy little camper.
