iphone users
For the users of iPhones on the forum there are a couple of useful programs that you can upload for use in your daily training exercise.
I like this one a lot because it's FREE! Cycorder Free video recorder by Saurik This program is free and available through the Cydia installer. It turns your camera into a video recorder and you can use it to video tape yourself doing kata or fighting. Video helps to see yourself and possibly catch some mistakes or improve on different things. No sound though... will upload a video sample of it shortly. Example: Just saying "hello" to the punching bag in our student gymnasium before class starts and trying out program.
Round Timer This program has a round timer and cool down timer. Good for bag work practice, kumite, etc. My only qualm is that the round buzzer is too quiet. I believe this can be found in apple app store.

Osu Marcsui,
I got a 3G iPhone and it's been my new favorite toy for the past couple weeks. I've wanted to get a video recorder installed but I think the one you have linked above only works on jailbroken phones. Correct? How is this Round Timer better than the stopwatch timer built in? |

I think the round timer will actually do rounds as opposed to the built in stop watch simply counting down a specified time and then being done. This particular app is pretty rad in that you can set the warning time and rest time.
I'm in the same boat as smoothsake in that my iphone is still a 'virgin' and I have no plans to deflower it.

Smoooooothsake,
It is for "jailbroken" iphones. I've read that Jailbreaking does not void the warranty but unlocking the phone does. If you are in need of repairs it is best to factory restore and send it in. At least that's what people say on the iphone forums. I have subscribed to the AT&T service. Round timer is good because it has a built in rest timer as well. As with all functions that involve sound I wish it was a tad bit louder. Check out that humble pie video I posted. The quality is much better than the youtube version obviously. It saves the videos in .mov and can be extracted through iphonebrowser or openSSH. Great thing is that the videos don't take up too much memory on your iphone! Osu! Marc

I've toyed with the idea of jailbreaking, but I seem to have enough problems with the thing randomly freezing. Who knows, maybe the third party software is more stable?
Also, I have a pretty nice DV camera that I use for filming kata, bag training and kumite.

OH, and how do you get the iphone to stand up straight so you can film? Do you have a tripod or do you just prop it up on something?

there was a stack of foldable gym mats that were elevated at about eye level against the wall near the punching bag. I leaned myiphone up against my backpack.
**Kazaam** Fancy Shmancy tripod. Re: Freezing that's a problem with any iPhone I think jailbroken or not.

In case you guys are curious, I recently bought this case. I'm pretty happy with it albeit it was 2x the price as anything else on amazon. I figure it is a sexy phone and it needs a sexy case.

Didn't realize I was wearing it at school when you mentioned that. It has quickly become my most favorite work out shirt.

Not only is that OT, but it pains me to read that with the big game on 9/13. Fight on!
