My first big injury was somewhere in the late 1990`s.. we were at a stamina training (swimming pool, steamroom, sauna, sessions in the dojo) and at one of the sessions we were doing loads of mae geri followed directly by an ushirio geri with the other leg and something popped in my back... ended up being a hernia when i got home (after i had finished the training, because i wouldnt quite) i couldnt stand up straight for weeks...

[quote=Ant;13689]man 1 month after? that sucks lol. How many boards? 1?
Well, to tell the truth it was, though it was a board that was already broken in-half (about 5" wide). As a young teen I thought I could break it in half once again. We had just finished a demo at the dojo and a bunch of us teens where breaking the already broken boards, not wishing to be bested I grabbed the smallest board and the rest is my painful history........ The knuckle is still deformed to this day. |

Last year I had my first serious injury after 7 years of practice. Green belt 4th kyu. Was fighting a guy 114kg. Im72 kilos. It was his grade for 4th kyu and he was trying to sweep my legs away. He hit me straight at the middle of the shin and it broke my leg. Was away for 7 months. 2 months of healing and after that did some boxing+ weight training for about 3-4 months. Im fully back in practice now and im so hungry!!!!!!

Maybe not a injury but during my first year my sensei sweeped me down and finished with a punch straight to the solar plexus. It really pumped me and my ears got this strange airpressure block that lasted for 2 months. I still remember the relief as it went back normal..

Broke a piece of bone off the top of my shin, underneath the patella tendon, while training as a white belt, didn't realise for a month or two, kept training then had to have a year off to get surgery to remove it. They had to disconnect the tendon to get it out so recovery was slow.

Injuries
I don't really remember the "first" injury - there are lots of little things. My first big injury was at 1st Kyu, when I completely busted my knee. Having sacrificed that knee to the karate gods, I recovered, and achieved shodan.
Then, I decided I wanted to do nidan. Sacrificed another knee to the karate gods, and after rehab, achieved nidan. I only have two legs, so I never did grade for sandan..... ![]() |

Day one - an over zealous green belt went to work on my legs and dropped me a couple of times. Couldnt walk properly for a week.

Then their was the time down along the river, there was these cows chained up grazing... Well we (we as in 6 kyu grades I think we where 12- 13) unchained them and I climed a tree next to one of them, jumped on her back and took a ride. She broke my shin with her horn... I never did go to the hospitail (couldn't tell the parents) but years later when I was getting the same leg x-rayed for a broken foot the Dr asked me did you ever brake your shin??? because it never healed correctly.

I came into karate pre-injured. I was pregnant with my 3rd child, slipped on some ice on the street, and landed hard on my right knee trying to protect my baby. Since I was in the last trimester, I couldn't get any help with the injury at the time, and just hobbled about until my body figured out how to make things work on it's own.
Years later, I decide that karate is the thing for me, and find out that every stance, and kick causes pain in that right hip. It didn't stop me, I just kicked as high as the hip allowed me to go. I went as low in stance as I could. Time, persistence, training, and plain old stubbornness has improved my hip problem. I can kick Jodan Mae Geri with ease, and I'm working on the same for Mawashi Geri. |

My first injury was in the mid -90`s. I was a brown belt 2. Kyu and was fighting in a tournament. I broke a bone in my foot (haisoku) kicking the other fighter in the head. He went down, but I meet his team mate in the next round.I could not kick and was to slow on my feet so try to punch him out..and so I broke a finger on my right hand. The finger was ok pretty soon, but it took some time with the foot.. :O)
