Last training session of the year
We had our last training session of the year this week, at the dojo.
About 50 were in attendance. The actual dojo itself is very small, so it was very very crowded... 7 per row, about 8 rows... The "highlight" of the session, were MAWASHI GERI... In all, we did about 1,300 of them, in a row, non-stop... Yes, that is the right number....1,300.... They started out as Jodan Mawashi Geri...but as the numbers kept getting higher, the kicks started getting lower... But, the amazing thing, was after we hit the final kick, Kamio Shihan opened up all the windows in the dojo....the heat and sweat, mixed with the cold cold air rushing in, turned the dojo into something more like a cloud....or a sauna room. The room was instant steam!!! It was almost mystic....but, that was just me.....everyone was dead tired, but as you looked at the sempai lined up in front of you, and saw the steam rolling off of their shoulders and head, you realized that for this short time, this moment, we were one. We had all endured and conqured the unthinkable... vapor |

Osu, reminds me of a session in the Honbu Dojo in 87, when Shihan Jim Phillips (Sensei Jim at the time) took us through a class with a visiting Japanese Instructor (name escapes me).
mae keage = 1000 kin geri = 1000 hiza geri = 1000 mae geri = 1000 yoko keage = 1000 kunsetsu geri = 1000 yoko geri = 1000 oshiro geri = 1000 uchi mawashi geri = 1000 soto mawashi geri = 1000 mawashi geri = 1000 aahhh, the memories, thanks Shihan Jimmy! very difficult walking back to the car after that one. |

My last training session was also a monster! Two guys from our club are going for their shodans in january so it was very intense kind of mini grading for us all not nice! You know what i mean if you have taken a black belt grading...very realistic to say the least they know what there up against! So much for the christmas 'games' we normally play on our last session of the year! No jelly n ice cream!

Osu,
Last training day for me was November, 1st Sat. of the week, promotion to Green belt. It was not so difficult during the initial stages up to Ido Geko and finally Katas where I was able to do all the Pinan Katas, Tsuki no Kata, Yantsu, Gekki Sai Dai and Gekki Sai Sho. Last was Kumite, during the 1st fight my Heart started to pump fast (Arrythmia attack) thus restricting me to 2 fights (fighters are champions in local competitions they gave me hell) so frustrating not doing the five required. To top it all my torn muscle located at my inner left thigh (began to bleed five days after promotion) disabling me from practice for the whole November and December 2006. Doctor told me to stop stretching for nine months...oh God. Now I just do light exercises and Katas, at times Ido Geko. No Kumite and stretching yet. Osu. Am still dreading that killer first class after taking time off eating and drinking way too much. I fall into the same trap year after year. The only thing that makes me feel better is that everyone else goes through the same thing too!

Osu Ksan, You said it, "crap" is the right word. I worked hard nearly everyday of the week for the promotion to green only to strain my leg and over work my heart. The real "crap" is the doctor's recommendation not to train hard and stretch the leg. I do miss the hard training, worse I see my friends sweating like hell in the dojo. Now ain't that a teaser. Yes, I am now green belt but buckled down for nine months. Also I think I am starting to gain weight...oh my God! I do hope this leg heals soon. I cannot wait to prepare for my stripe. Osu! |
