Remember to triple- and quadropelcheck that the tattooist is doing it right - a former student of our dojo had the Ashihara kanji tattoo'ed on his left chest. Unfortunatelly, the tattooist accidentally mirrored it...

Dear vapor,
Even if that is one of your "many hobbies", I will still respect you as a fellow Kyokushin Karateka and a moderator. Your personal choice will not undermine your contribution to K4L. You are well respected. OSU!

Beware the tattooist!! Especially when getting drilled in a language you dont speak or read.
I recently read and article concerning a tattooist of Japanese origin living and working in NYC who became a little fed up with all the pretty little 20 somethings coming in to have the kanji for "power" or "life" inked onto their hip. One of his clients was perplexed at being the subject of some hilarity among the asian student population at her college, she asked what was so funny, the lovely kanji she had inked on her shoulder, which she thought meant "life" actually meant prostitute. It has since been revealed she wasnt the only one to fall victim! So beware! Obviously the game changes when someone comes in wanting Kyokushin or some such inked up but it does bare some thinking about.

Excellent tattoo. I could not manage a tattoo there because of my line of work.

ehh i didnt really care about work. i wear long sleeves and its pretty much covered. i thought it would be a bad thing to do being that im in the engineering field, but ppl love it and they always say you have to be pretty dedicated to do something like that ... and i smile and say ... yep its my way of life.

I agree. The only other place i'd want to get a tattoo is on my forearms. Unfortunately corporate America doesn't share my interest in body art.
If you decide to go into petroleum engineering.. they really can't say anything about your tattoo and you could wear short sleeves all day working on a rig ![]()
