kyokushin tatoo
I was thinking about kyokushin tatoo. The reasons i want it is because it is cool
but i want it more to remined me what way i have chosen- the way of kyokushin. But i am nothing as a karateka, i dont have black belt yet. All i have is kyokushin in my heart and my fighting spirit. So what would the black belts think if they saw a guy with a kyokushin tatoo. And what was your reasons when you did your tatoo? Hopes you understand what i mean. |

I'd say you were one dedicated karateka. The tattoo isn't just for black belts, its for anyone with, as you say, Kyokushin in the heart.

I got my tattoo as an 8 th kyu.
It has a special meaning for me, and is important to me alone. I am getting another soon, "Osu no seishin" in kanji on my right chest, again this is important to me alone I am reserving my left chest for the kanji when i acheive Shodan, i feel before then it has less meaning for me. But that is me, you are in control of your own body, so make your own decisions. All i would advise about tattoos is: 1 Make your life decisions first, tattoos on forearms, necks, faces etc can predudice the way people see you, unfair yes, but it happens. Don't risk a career over a peice of bady art, think carefully about placement, its forever 2 Understand that even though it is forever, it wont stay as pretty as when it was first done, they will fade and flesh will sag. You will have to live with it in twenty years not quite as nice as it was. Other than that, if it means something to you, you should do what makes you happy. Bren |

And one more advice.
If you do it you have to "make it right". Do not complain that you have not been warned if one day you see the "wicked smile" on the faces of your Japanese Sensei/Shihan. OSU!

I'm going for green, so I'm 5th.
I've been training nearly two years. But I also want a tattoo. I'm going to wait until Green or Brown as a way of motivating myself into striving for it. :] Although I think it shows your definitly dedicated if you train hard too!! |

i think everyone can own tattoo...
but it indicate your way and style, you should chose part can show your way... and some parts in your body indicate to some meanings. someone has tattoo in her/his forearm in order to shows strength her/his forearm... and someone has it as appearance for the body... |

Tattoo are cool...however unnecessary and possibly harmful.
入れ墨 (irezumi or tattoo) was only done on criminals to distinguish them from the general public, I'm sure you all heard of Yakuza. true budoka way is to stay away from possible dangers and protect yourself from them.

I had a dragon tattooed over my back by a traditional Japanese artist.
It took me a year to complete, a fair bit of pain, and a whole lotta cash, but its something that has special significance to me, and I really treasure it. These days tattoos are popular amoung younger Japanes people. Unfortunately many of the older generation still associate it with the yakuza. I am banned from Onsen( public bath houses/hot springs) and even some gyms! But this will change with time. |

hi all,
the question will be: where to? where is the best place for the kanji-tattoo? most guys have the tattoo at their chest i think. it´s not only for yudansha... ;-) |

I've been training for 12 years, had my shodan for 3 years and just turned 18. So I think I might tatoo my forarm or chest and have a dragon on my back since my name means dragon.

There was a sento right down the street from me in Asakusa, that accepted people with tatoo's. One of the guys from my dojo would go there everyday, especially after class. (he had the half sleeve, probably full back type too...and yes, when he wasn't in a dogi, he was a yakuza....cool guy, very caring. He was so sad when I told him that I was moving away from Tokyo to live in NY As a side note, he and others with prominent tatoos were asked to where a shirt under their dogi, and change in the bathroom, away from others...is that the case in other dojo's?) vapor |

i got my kyokushin tattoo a month ago.
on my left forearm i have the kanku followed by the kyokushinkai kanji. its a constant reminder for me to continue to train with more intensity everytime i step into dojo. during class if im not looking at sosai's picture for encouragement, i look at the tatto and remind myself that if i dont train hard im disgracing the name of kyokushin. |
