New movie “Kuro Obi”
Yagi Ayato, a Godan Shihan in Goju Ryu Karate at Naha City of Okinawa, stars in a new movie named “Kuro Obi”. His grandfather was a successor to Miyagi Chojun, the founder of Goju Ryu Karate.
“Kuro Obi” is set in the early Showa Period of Japan. Yoshitatsu (played by Yagi), the protagonist, is a person who keeps his teacher’s teaching of “No first hand in Karate” to the end.
The movie will first hit the Japanese cinemas in mid-2007, and it has been planned for screenings in film festivals overseas.

A karate movie with someoone that actually knows karate playing the lead role?
What a novel idea!

Seriously though, The problem with karate practitioners as actors is that karate practice is not acting experience. Has Yagi Ayato starred in any major (or even minor) role in the past?

Dear Martin H,
I think this is Shihan Yagi Ayato's movie debut and he won the role in an audtion with 300 people. His acting was said to be "awkward" at the beginning but shown improvement after taking some drama classes.

That does sound. i would also like to see another flick about Sosai with a real kyoku-kenka that does real Oyama style karate. dont get me wrong, "fighter in the wind" was a good film though.

Oh yeah...How many Yokozuna members are on the foro?
