Sensei Kenji Ushiro
Does anyone know Sensei Kenji Ushiro from Japan? He will be coming to Los Angeles to do a seminar at the invitation of one of my senpai. Sensei Ushiro is not Kyokushin but he is a renown budo karate and iaido expert. I understand he has done some training with the likes of Kancho Kazumi Hajime.

Here is his profile:

Born in Miyazaki, 1949. In 1967, entered Miyazaki University Karate-do
Club, the third oldest karate club in Kyushu. Ushiro was dedicated to
mastering competitive karate and he competed in many tournaments. He
moved to Osaka after graduation and met Nikichi Zaha, head instructor
of the Shindokai. He started to question the competitive style of
karate and began to learn Okinawan Zaha style karate directly under
Zaha Sensei.

Ushiro believes that the most dangerous weapon against bare-handed
martial arts is the sword, and so he started to learn Muso Jikiden-ryu
Iai. Since then he has won over ninety iaido demonstration
competitions. He is also very busy as a computer programmer, and
teaches Okinawan koryu karate on the side. He is dedicated to the
spread of Zaha Karate. Shindo-ryu Renshi 5th dan. Iaido 5th dan.

If anyone knows or heard of Sensei Ushiro I would appreciate your comments as I am thinking of attending the seminar.

Dear smoothsake,
Ushiro Shihan has appeared in budo magazines quite a lot these years. From what I know, Ushiro Shihan is interested in bujutsu karate, much like Kazumi Kancho. He will give you a new understanding in body posture, the use of body power, distancing and all that. If you are only interested in knockdown tournament fighting, this may not be your cup of tea. But if you want to have a deeper understanding of karate, by all means attend it. Yes I have heard that both Kazumi Kancho and Iwasaki Shihan have trained with him but I do not no much about the details.

Try searching for "kick ass karate okinawan moves" on youtube, chis curdell has a meeting with Kenji Ushiro sensei. He is amazing. Not a guy you would like to mess around with. He has a very calm attitude, yet his sprite is of a true boduka.
